Sindang Jungang Market Korean restaurant: 3 best dishes at Gyeryugwan

In short

Gyeryugwan is an oak wood-fired Korean restaurant in the Jungang Market alley by Sindang Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. Every table at Gyeryugwan was already full before 5pm, so the order was the three best dishes: oak wood-fired chicken with neunggi mushroom at 23,000 won, chicken feet in broth at 15,000 won, and chicken neck tangsuyuk (sweet and sour) at 15,000 won. All three were solid, making Gyeryugwan a place worth going back to.

Today I want to introduce an oak-fired chicken restaurant in Sindang. It's Gyeryugwan, located in the Sindang Station Jungang Market alley. It's a famous spot that's been on Pinstorang, Waiting Restaurant, and even Japanese TV.

Where is Gyeryugwan and what are its hours?

Gyeryugwan is on the 1st floor at 15-17 Toegye-ro 87-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul, South Korea, open 16:00 - 23:00 with last order at 22:00. It's within a 3-minute walk from Sindang Station Exit 2. There were a lot of Japanese diners there too — it's already famous among foreign visitors.

Why Gyeryugwan is already full before 5pm

True to its reputation as a Sindang-dong favorite, the place was already full even though I arrived before 5pm. Gyeryugwan is famous for oak-fired chicken, and every single table was ordering it. Tables ranged from 2-person to 4-person, with room for group dinners too.

I haven't seen a restaurant this full before 5pm in a while. I could tell why customers were showing up so early — it was all because of the "oak-fired neunggi mushroom chicken" menu.

Full before 5pm at Sindang Station's oak-fired chicken spot, ordering the best 3 at Gyeryugwan

I ordered the three best menu items at this Sindang-dong favorite: oak-fired neunggi mushroom chicken, spicy chicken feet soup, and chicken neck tangsuyuk.

Gyeryugwan's three best menu items on the table

Oak wood-fired chicken with neunggi mushroom, 23,000 won

First up is the oak-fired neunggi mushroom chicken. I could see why every table was ordering it. The chicken meat tore apart softly, and the inside was packed full of neunggi mushroom hot pot rice.

You should eat the oak-fired chicken as soon as it comes out — it stays warm longer and even the skin melts in your mouth, tasting even better.

The neunggi mushroom hot pot rice also came with fried garlic and neunggi mushrooms, so eating the rice with the chicken was really filling. I think it would pair well with makgeolli too.

Chicken feet in broth, 15,000 won: the must-order pairing

You must order Gyeryugwan's spicy chicken feet soup along with the oak-fired chicken. It's really delicious!!!!! What makes Gyeryugwan's chicken feet soup special is that they learned the broth recipe directly from a chicken feet restaurant in Ingye-dong, Suwon, run for two generations.

Inside the spicy broth were rice cakes, bean sprouts, various vegetables, and whole chicken feet — there was nothing left to complain about, it was that good.

If the chicken feet soup is too spicy for you, dip it in the mayonnaise sauce that comes with it to tone down the heat.

Chicken neck tangsuyuk, 15,000 won, with ginger sauce

Last is the chicken neck tangsuyuk. Every menu item at Gyeryugwan was delicious. This tangsuyuk wasn't made with the usual sauce but with a ginger-based sweet and sour sauce, paired with paprika and onion — a different kind of delicacy compared to the usual pork tangsuyuk.

Is Gyeryugwan worth a return visit?

I'd 100% go back to this Sindang oak-fired chicken favorite. Every dish at Gyeryugwan was delicious. If you're looking for a Sindang Station restaurant, don't overthink it — go visit this Sindang-dong favorite, Gyeryugwan. You really can't go wrong with any dish.
