Seogyo-dong café for matcha ice cream and club sandwich: Seowon Angil

I'd walked past Seowon Angil Hapjeong so many times in Seogyo-dong that I finally decided to go. A lot of people these days are looking for dog-friendly cafés, and this Seogyo-dong favorite happens to be exactly that — a brunch café with a cozy, emotional kind of space where you can enjoy coffee and brunch together.

Here's my review of Seowon Angil Hapjeong, a place that was full of warmth and coziness from start to finish.

Seowon Angil Hapjeong is a brunch café occupying the 1st and 2nd floors at 34 Jandari-ro 3-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul. It's tucked into a Seogyo-dong alley near Hapjeong Station, so I'd passed by it often without stopping in.

Even though it was a familiar sight from walking by so many times, the exterior still carries that distinct Seowon Angil charm every time I see it.

Inside Seowon Angil Hapjeong: seating for solo visits and groups

Inside, the wood-tone interior is layered with plenty of green, giving it a cozy, warm feel that matched the exterior perfectly.

There are group tables as well as tables for two and four, so it looked great for coming with a crowd. And since the café is quite spacious with a second floor, it also felt like a good place to sit alone and quietly unwind without worrying about anyone else.

How to order at Seowon Angil Hapjeong and what's on the menu

You order at the counter on the 1st floor, and the staff guided us kindly, which made the whole experience pleasant.

This Seogyo-dong favorite is a brunch café that serves both drinks and meals, so there's a wide range of desserts, a variety of beverages, and plenty of brunch dishes to choose from.

The signature dishes are the Basque cheesecake, the Seowon Angil ragù pasta, and the grilled shrimp and herb oil plate. Since we'd already eaten before coming, we ordered drinks and the Basque cheesecake, but even though we were already full, it felt like a waste to visit a brunch café and not try a brunch dish, so we ordered a sandwich too.

The dishes came out neatly plated, and I tried the club sandwich first — it was generously filled and tasted great. Proof that you really do have to try the brunch menu at a brunch café!

The coffee and ice cream also came in generous portions, which felt satisfying for the price. With such a wide menu, this café is clearly a good spot for a group to come and order a variety of dishes.

Iced Americano, 6,000 won

The iced Americano had a nutty, clean flavor that paired well with the cheesecake — refreshing and satisfying.

Matcha milk ice cream 7,300 won and milk ice cream 6,300 won

For ice cream, we ordered both the matcha milk ice cream and the milk ice cream. Honestly, I'm not usually a fan of matcha flavors, but wow — Seowon Angil's matcha ice cream wasn't overly bitter, and it was genuinely delicious.

The milk ice cream wasn't a predictable flavor either — it was pleasantly sweet and nutty. They gave us nuts on the side, which we sprinkled over the top.

Vanilla bean latte 7,800 won and Basque cheesecake 6,400 won

The vanilla bean latte was sweet without being too much, right up my alley. And the Basque cheesecake was truly beyond expectations. It felt different from the usual Basque cheesecake — instead of a dense, thick texture, it had a soft, creamy texture that felt fresh and made it even smoother and more delicious. If you love Basque cheesecake, you'll be genuinely satisfied here.

Is Seowon Angil Hapjeong worth a visit? Final verdict

Seowon Angil, a place I'd always wanted to visit, turned out to be truly beyond expectations. In a warm, cozy space, I got to enjoy delicious coffee, dessert, and brunch while quietly unwinding. Everything was good, but the Basque cheesecake stuck with me the most — I'll definitely be back soon!
