Whenever I have plans around Hapjeong or Hongdae, there's always this quiet dilemma.

Just coffee feels like something's missing, but finding a place to eat that also has good vibes isn't easy.

This time I went to Seowon Angil Hapjeong, located between Hapjeong and Hongdae.

I went in thinking it was a regular café and was surprised once by its size, then surprised again by how varied the brunch menu was.

There's a mix of Western dishes and Korean-style brunch, so there was a lot to choose from.

I ordered the tteokbokki and the ricotta garden salad, and the combo turned out better than I expected, so let me tell you about it.

Where is Seowon Angil Hapjeong, and what is it like on arrival?

Seowon Angil Hapjeong is located at 34 Jandari-ro 3-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul.

It sits between Hapjeong and Hongdae, making it a convenient meeting spot.

The building itself is quite large, so the atmosphere felt different from a typical small café the moment I walked in.

The space is split across the 1st and 2nd floors with plenty of seating, so it looked good for meeting a group of friends or having a work meeting.

Tables were spaced generously apart, so I didn't feel too self-conscious about the conversation at the next table.

It seemed like a good fit for people bringing laptops to work too — a solid pick if you're after a large Hapjeong café.

Free parking space at Seowon Angil Hapjeong

Free parking is available for about 3–4 cars.

Some paid parking support is also available depending on the situation, so if you're driving, it might be worth checking ahead.

Walking in, the natural light pouring through the floor-to-ceiling windows caught my eye first.

The 1st floor mixes colorful tones with those big windows for a bright, refreshing feel.

It's a plant-filled interior (planterior), so even with the large space, it felt cozy rather than empty.

Going up to the 2nd floor, the mood shifts entirely.

It feels like a gallery.

There are more plants and unique touches like mother-of-pearl chairs, giving it a more intimate, distinct character.

So within the same café, it was fun choosing a seat based on which vibe I wanted.

There's a bake room on the 2nd floor, so I could tell they take their bread seriously.

It seemed like a good option too if you're looking for a quiet spot to talk in Hapjeong, or a large Hapjeong café for laptop work.

Each table had a QR code, which made checking the menu easy.

What stands out about Seowon Angil Hapjeong is that it's a café with a genuinely wide range of meal options too.

There's pasta and other Western dishes, plus salads, plates, and cakes.

A new chicken breast steak has also been added to the menu, apparently.

What I personally found interesting, though, is that it's not just Western food.

There's Korean-style brunch too, like tteokbokki and kimchi fried rice, so there's something for every taste.

You can pick your coffee beans, and there are drinks like ade, bottled beer, and glass wine, so it also seemed like a nice place for a casual meal with a bit of atmosphere.

We ordered the tteokbokki and the ricotta garden salad.

How do the tteokbokki and ricotta garden salad taste?

Honestly, ordering tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) at a big brunch café felt a bit unexpected at first.

But once the food arrived, I changed my mind.

The tteokbokki came with fritters on the side.

Seeing that combo, I instantly thought, 'okay, they actually know tteokbokki.'

Pairing crispy fritters with the tteokbokki changed up the texture, and I kept reaching for more.

The portion was also quite generous.

I'd ordered it thinking of it as a light café snack, but ended up pretty full — it would work fine as a full meal.

Having this kind of option in Hapjeong when you want café and a meal solved in one place was quietly convenient.

And the ricotta garden salad we ordered alongside it exceeded expectations too.

It's a signature salad where you get house-made ricotta cheese and fruit together, and the orange was so sweet it stuck with me.

Salads can easily end up all about the vegetables, but the sweetness of the fruit plus the soft ricotta cheese made it feel much richer.

What I especially enjoyed were the cherry tomatoes.

They weren't just plain fresh tomatoes but nicely pickled cherry tomatoes, which lifted the flavor of the whole salad.

They had a tangy-sweet flavor that also paired well with something seasoned like the tteokbokki.

Spacious café seating good for groups

I liked that Seowon Angil Hapjeong isn't simply a café for one cup of coffee, but a space where you can handle a meal and conversation together.

What genuinely surprised me...

The bathroom here is five-star-hotel level.

The 1st floor runs from 9:30 AM to 10:00 PM, with last order at 7:00 PM.

The 2nd floor is open from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM with a time limit on use, so plan your visit accordingly.

With plenty of seats and generous space between tables, it's good for meeting up with friends too.

It also felt comfortable enough for a work meeting or laptop work.

Pets are welcome, and there's Wi-Fi, a takeout discount, and a discount for bringing your own tumbler.

Reservations, takeout, and venue rental are all available, and paid corkage is supported too, so it's flexible depending on what you need.

Looking for a large café in Hapjeong?

Final shot of the Seowon Angil Hapjeong café space

If you're picking a café in Hapjeong and want more than just good coffee — a proper meal too — Seowon Angil Hapjeong is worth remembering.

The tteokbokki I tried this time had a generous portion and came with fritters, which made it more filling than I expected.

Pairing it with the ricotta garden salad — sweet orange, house-made ricotta cheese, and nicely pickled cherry tomatoes — let me enjoy Korean and Western flavors at once.

Above all, the space itself is spacious with generous gaps between seats, so it didn't feel crowded meeting up with several people.

Thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows and plant-filled interior, it didn't feel stuffy even after staying a while, and the 1st and 2nd floors each have a slightly different mood, so there's fun in finding the seat that suits you.

It'll come to mind when you want to handle a meal and café in one go during a Hapjeong date, or when you want a relaxed spot to talk near Hongdae.

What was quietly appealing was that it's not just the usual brunch menu — there are Korean dishes like tteokbokki too.

If you've been looking for a large café with good vibes in Hapjeong, it's worth stopping by Seowon Angil Hapjeong to enjoy a meal and café together.
