Seoul Korean BBQ with smoke-free downdraft grills: Sansol Sinnonhyeon
In short
Sansol Sinnonhyeon is an aged-meat Korean BBQ restaurant with a mountain-lodge feel, a 5-minute walk from Exit 3 of Sinnonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Meeting a former nursing colleague after a long time, the writer ordered aged pork belly and aged pork neck (150g each), red crab ramyeon and country-style steamed egg, and could focus entirely on talking thanks to staff who grill every piece from start to finish and a downdraft grill that pulls the smoke away. For a Gangnam meetup spot with good atmosphere where the smell of meat doesn't cling to your clothes, Sansol Sinnonhyeon is the answer.

Hey! It's Melon.
Today I met up with a nurse I used to work with at my old hospital — it had been way too long — and we threw a proper meat party in Sinnonhyeon.
From venting about the chaos at our respective hospitals, to surviving back-to-back day shifts and night shifts, to digging up old memories... we talked nonstop, and I realized we really needed some good meat to keep our energy up.
So here's my honest, no-sponsorship review of 'Sansol Sinnonhyeon,' the Sinnonhyeon hotspot where the staff grill everything for you and the vibe is out of this world — perfect for actually focusing on the conversation!
Where is Sansol Sinnonhyeon, and what are the hours?
Sansol Sinnonhyeon is within a 5-minute walk of Sinnonhyeon Station (Line 9 / Sinbundang Line) Exit 3. Hours are Mon–Fri 12:00–23:00 (break 15:00–16:00), Sat–Sun 12:00–22:00.

The second I got there I let out a little "wow" out loud. How is there such a cozy, mountain-lodge-style BBQ spot right in the middle of the city?!

Step inside and you're greeted with an interior that mixes stone and wood so tastefully that it genuinely felt like I'd escaped bleak Gangnam and taken a quick trip out to the countryside.
Barley tea in a Del Monte bottle and the table setup
Sansol Sinnonhyeon serves barley tea in Del Monte glass bottles. The basic table setup has everything you need, all ready to go.

The moment I sat down, my eyes went straight to this 'Del Monte glass bottle'! It's filled with refreshing, nutty barley tea, and between the retro vibe and the owner's great sense of style, I was impressed.

Each table has a grill built in seamlessly, like it's one piece with the table — it had that high-end stone-grill feel.

Every table came fully set with tissues, paper cups, beer glasses, shot glasses, even a bottle opener — so convenient, no need to flag down a staff member for the basics.

Staff grill everything, and the downdraft grill handles the smell
The biggest perk of Sansol Sinnonhyeon is that staff grill your meat completely, start to finish. On top of that, they use a downdraft grill that sucks the smoke down and away, so almost none of the meat smell got into our clothes or hair.

Finally, the thick-cut aged pork belly and pork neck arrived, along with fresh vegetables to grill alongside!

Side dishes and various sauces to go with the meat came out too.

They brushed meat fat onto the grill to get it ready for cooking.

Sansol's biggest strength is really this: the staff grill everything perfectly from start to finish. Thanks to that, my friend and I could keep our nonstop chat going without worrying about the meat burning.

And here's the amazing part! Instead of a bunch of vents hanging from the ceiling, this place uses a 'downdraft grill' that pulls the smoke straight down through the grill! It doesn't block your view, and even after finishing our meal, our clothes and hair barely had any meat smell on them — genuinely so pleasant.
How were the red crab ramyeon and country-style steamed egg?
The red crab ramyeon had a whole half red crab in it, so the broth was way more refreshing and deep than regular ramyeon. The country-style steamed egg had a drizzle of sesame oil, making it savory-salty and soft.

While the meat was cooking, we made quick work of the side dishes first!

There was literally half a whole red crab in there, so the broth was incomparably more refreshing and deep than regular ramyeon.

The fluffy steamed egg had a full swirl of nutty sesame oil on top, and the smell alone was incredible. Salty and soft — perfect for settling our stomachs before diving into the meat.
Four winning ways to eat the aged pork belly and pork neck
At Sansol Sinnonhyeon, once the aged meat is cooked just right, they place it on a grill rack so it won't burn. We rotated through combos of aged kimchi + ssamjang, wasabi, salted seafood, and wasabi + aged kimchi.

Expertly grilled to lock in the juices, the perfectly cooked meat was placed neatly on a 'grill rack' on the grill so it wouldn't burn. Thanks to that, we could eat even the very last bite warm. The meat itself was such high quality that it tasted amazing no matter how we ate it!

One bite with crunchy aged kimchi + a generous dollop of ssamjang

One bite dipped in wasabi to bring out the meat's natural flavor

One bite piled high with savory, salty salted seafood

One bite with the dream combo of wasabi + aged kimchi!

With so many side dishes and sauces to mix things up, we never got tired of it and just kept eating and eating. They even thoughtfully sent us off with sweet-and-tart candy at the end — the perfect finish to the meal.
Is Sansol Sinnonhyeon a good Gangnam meetup spot? The verdict
At 'Sansol Sinnonhyeon,' I got to enjoy perfectly aged meat in an atmosphere that felt like a mountain lodge in the middle of the city! With staff grilling everything and a pleasant environment that doesn't leave a smell behind, it was the perfect setting to catch up with an old friend over a great meal.
If you're looking for a great-atmosphere BBQ spot near Sinnonhyeon Station that's perfect for meetups, definitely give 'Sansol' a visit!
