The clear, deep broth of wild milbok jiri Bogi-o Boguk
Pufferfish soup — the dish I always think of when I need to recharge! I had lunch plans in Cheongdam and while searching for what to eat, I stumbled on a really solid pufferfish restaurant.

Inside Bogi-o Boguk in Cheongdam: dining room and private room
Inside, Bogi-o Boguk is bright and tidy, with generously spaced tables and a separate private room. Somehow I expected a Cheongdam restaurant to feel a bit stiff and formal, but once inside it was comfortable and clean. I barely noticed the neighboring tables at all.
The private room in particular seemed great for a quiet meal with parents, a family gathering, or a work dinner where you want some privacy.

Open all day with no break time
Personally, what I loved most was the no-break-time policy. Around Cheongdam, plenty of restaurants close around 3pm, so if you miss the lunch window, picking a place gets tricky. Being able to visit even during that in-between hour was a huge advantage.

Bogi-o Boguk menu and ordering the wild milbok jiri
Bogi-o Boguk is a pufferfish specialty restaurant with more than just soup and jiri — it also serves pufferfish tempura, pufferfish bulgogi, pufferfish sashimi, and seasoned pufferfish skin. I ordered wild milbok jiri without a second thought! Milbok jiri comes in either a clear or spicy broth, and since I love clean, refreshing soups, I went with clear.
True to a pufferfish specialty spot, the menu is varied enough for a light solo meal or for a group ordering a spread of different dishes.
A well-prepared set of side dishes and utensils, ready to go 🌟

It arrived bubbling hot in a stone pot, packed with pufferfish plus bean sprouts, minari, and other vegetables — just looking at it, you could tell it'd taste refreshing.

I love minari, so I added even more of it myself — though honestly, they already give you a generous amount!

The rice was also nice and chewy

How the clear milbok jiri broth and pufferfish meat tasted
The clear milbok jiri broth at Bogi-o Boguk looks light but doesn't taste bland at all. One sip in and I thought, wow, they really know how to make broth here. Behind the clean, refreshing flavor was a subtle deep savoriness, and thanks to the bean sprouts and minari, even the aftertaste stayed cool. It's not salty or heavy with seasoning — the kind of broth that keeps pulling your spoon back in.

I dipped it in soy-wasabi sauce, and there were also chojang (vinegar-chili sauce) and vinegar on the table to mix in.
The pufferfish meat was fairly mild, which paired well with the broth. It was soft yet had just the right springiness — great eaten plain, and even more savory with a light dip in soy sauce. It had a bounce almost like chicken meat, unlike any pufferfish I'd had before! Maybe because it's wild milbok haha.
When you think hangover soup, you usually picture something spicy and intense, but this kind of clear broth actually felt soothing on the stomach — so refreshing and good 👏🏻👏🏻

Funny thing is, I hadn't even had any alcohol that day, but with every spoonful it felt like a hangover I never had was getting cured lol. The pufferfish meat was also the springiest, freshest I've had in any pufferfish jiri 👍🏻

Who is this Cheongdam pufferfish restaurant best for?
Overall, Bogi-o Boguk scored high across the board — the flavor, the atmosphere, and the menu lineup. It's not a place chasing bold, intense flavors; it lets the ingredients themselves shine, so I felt light and comfortable afterward.
- Anyone looking for a place to eat with their parents
- Anyone wanting a clean, quiet restaurant in Cheongdam-dong
- Anyone who wants to try a proper pufferfish jiri
Highly recommend this restaurant!
