Was trying to figure out where to take my parents for a quick meal and this place immediately came to mind. It's a grilled Korean BBQ restaurant, so it's great for family meals or meet-the-parents dinners — a good pick when you need somewhere with a bit of formality and food that actually delivers for an important meal. Here's my repeat visit review, start!

Exterior and finding the entrance

There's a sign outside with the lunch set and signature menu items, worth checking before you go in. Group orders and takeout get 20% off!! (with 4+ hot pot rice takeout orders)

Huiyeol Seocho Gyodae Branch is on the basement level, so you can take the stairs from the ground floor, but if you're with elderly folks or anyone with knee trouble, you can go into the Seoho building right next to the entrance and take the elevator instead.
Parking and corkage
There's a free private parking lot, so no worries about parking. The spaces are wide enough that even if you're double-parked with your group for a big get-together, there's still enough room to not feel cramped.
Some places charge by the bottle or by the glass, but Huiyeol Seocho Gyodae Branch has free corkage!! Doesn't matter if it's wine or whiskey, any type is fine. Huge perk for anyone who likes to drink, or for company dinners.
Interior and atmosphere

The interior is decorated with plants for an upscale feel, and the liquor shelf has everything from traditional Korean alcohol to pricey spirits and a diverse wine lineup, so it's great for enjoying good food with a drink.

The pre-meal snack that's a total hit with elders and old-school palates: puffed corn kernels haha. Self-serve near the entrance, kept warm in a rice cooker, still crispy. So fun.
Private, group, and private rooms available
Huiyeol Seocho Gyodae Branch has various private rooms that can hold anywhere from 4 to 24 people, great for family gatherings, meet-the-parents dinners, or private events. It's also a perfect spot for office workers around Seocho and Gyodae stations to hold a group dinner.
The main hall also has plenty of space between tables so it's comfortable to use. Even in the open hall, partitions separate the seating so you don't feel like you're sitting right on top of another group. Soft piano BGM plays in the background. 🎵
Menu and prices
Huiyeol Seocho Gyodae Branch's menu 📝 The lunch set is great value — just ₩30,000-something for a Korean course that includes seasoned beef short rib. A full course with dessert included!!
Even outside the lunch set, beef can be ordered by the 100g, so you can try a variety of cuts.

What pairs with meat? Everything 🍷🍺🥃🍶 hahaha. Wine, traditional Korean alcohol, highballs, and spirits are all on the lineup, so you can pick whatever suits your taste to go with the food.

Neat, classic banchan spread

Six neat banchan (side dishes) come out as soon as you order. Seasoning was well-balanced and the ingredients weren't mushy, tasted fresh, so they paired nicely with the flower rib.
Korean beef flower rib grilled on a hot stone plate🥩

The Korean beef flower rib, sliced along the bone, comes grilled to medium-rare on a hot cast-iron plate, cut into bite-sized pieces. A restaurant that grills the meat for you — I love it so much..💕 The marbling between the slices looks amazing. 🥩✨️

The Korean beef flower rib in the grilled set comes to 200g, but even if you order it as a 100g à la carte item, it still comes with mushroom, cheongyang pepper, onion, and cherry tomato garnish. Eating the meat with the grilled vegetables makes for a tastier and healthier meal.

We ate a few pieces of the flower rib medium-rare, but since my dad can't eat undercooked meat, we kept flipping it on the still-hot cast-iron plate until it was fully cooked — and even fully cooked, it was juicy, not tough, and melted in the mouth.
Geumtae hot pot rice, the 'Hermès of fish'
placeholder
Geumtae hot pot rice — geumtae is often called the 'Hermès of fish'!! Even with Korean beef rib hot pot rice, bulgogi hot pot rice, and abalone hot pot rice on the menu, I skipped them all and ordered the geumtae hot pot rice again. It's rare and hard to find elsewhere, and I loved it on my last visit, so I reordered. Two hefty, nicely grilled geumtae fillets sit on top.
The sticky hot pot rice soaks up the geumtae's oils along with the chopped scallions, spreading a deep savory aroma. The geumtae itself is moist with a rich, buttery flavor. It also comes deboned, so it's easy to eat.

Since the flower rib was already the main event, I wanted something lighter on the rice side, and as a root-vegetable lover, I wanted to try the seasonal fresh corn hot pot rice. The corn added a fun popping texture along with a subtle sweetness, light but delicious. 🌽🍚
Cool, savory gat kimchi noodle soup & doenjang stew

The cool, tangy broth gets a kick from the distinct spicy-sharp flavor of gat kimchi (mustard leaf kimchi), instantly waking up your appetite. Crunchy gat kimchi plus chewy noodles make for a refreshing bowl you'll finish quick! Portion is pretty generous too.

The doenjang stew (fermented soybean paste stew) comes standard with the grilled set, so I didn't expect much, but it was incredibly savory, tasting like the kind you'd have in the countryside!! Loaded with big chunks of tofu, zucchini, and onion, it was really delicious.
A Korean meal has to end with carbs, of course hahaha. Hot pot rice scorched rice (nurungji)!!! A savory finish that rounds everything out perfectly👏
