In short
Chef Cho Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam is a fruit cream cake shop in Sweet Park, basement 1 of Shinsegae Gangnam in Seocho, Seoul, connected to Express Bus Terminal Station. The writer bought a Real Mango Rose size 1 (₩56,000) for a family birthday, and the thinly layered fresh mango was sweet and fresh while the cream stayed light enough not to feel heavy. Verdict: Chef Cho isn't just good at strawberry cakes — the mango is excellent too.

My family has had a go-to cake shop for special occasions for a few years now — Chef Cho. I first found out about it at the end of the year before last. My sibling brought a strawberry cake from the Chef Cho flagship store to a family gathering, and I took a bite without expecting much, only for the whole family to be blown away by how good it was. I'm not usually a huge fan of cream cakes, but Chef Cho's cream wasn't heavy at all, so I kept going back for more. Best of all, it's packed with fresh fruit, and the balance between the cream and the fruit was really great. Since then, my family has naturally turned to Chef Cho whenever there's a birthday or special occasion!!

This time, thanks to a good opportunity, I got to try the mango cake at Chef Cho Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam too꒰ ⸝⸝ɞ̴̶̷ ·̮ ɞ̴̶̷⸝⸝꒱💛
Where is Chef Cho Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam?

I usually went to the Mullae flagship store or the Yeongdeungpo branch, but it turns out there's a Chef Cho Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam location in Sweet Park on basement 1 of Shinsegae Gangnam!
It was crowded since it was the weekend, but since it's inside Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam, connected to Express Bus Terminal Station, the accessibility was great — I'm going to come to this branch often from now on!
So many cake options

When I got to the store, I slowly browsed the showcase, and there were way more cake types than I expected. I asked a staff member which cakes were selling best, and they said Peach Berry and Mango Rose are the most popular right now. I think I spent over 30 minutes agonizing over which of the two to buy..!

Both cakes come in mini and size 1, so you can pick based on how many people you're feeding or what it's for.
Peach Berry and Real Mango Rose prices
- 🍑Peach Berry — Mini ₩39,000 / Size 1 ₩53,000
- 🥭Real Mango Rose — Mini ₩39,000 / Size 1 ₩56,000
After much deliberation, what I picked that day was the Real Mango Rose size 1〰️ Fruit prices in general are so high these days, and mango desserts especially tend to be on the pricier side. But once I actually got the cake, the fresh mango wasn't just a token garnish — it was piled on generously, so ₩56,000 for size 1 felt like a pretty reasonable price.

There was another cake that kept catching my eye too — the newly released Fig Pistachio cake! Maybe because it's peak season for fresh figs right now, the fresh figs on top already looked delicious. I was curious about the fig and pistachio combo too, and it looked so pretty that I stood there admiring it for a while.

Next time I come to the Shinsegae Gangnam branch, I'm definitely trying this by the slice.

Beyond the cakes piled high with fresh fruit, there were plenty of other cake options too.
- ✔️Dark Chocolate Forest (chocolate sponge, chocolate cream, cherries)
- ✔️Whole Chocolate Strawberry (chocolate cream, strawberries)
- ✔️Pistachio Forest (pistachio cream, chocolate cream, cherries)
The clean cake designs would work well too if you're bringing one to a gathering with a lot of adults!
Chef Cho is good at mango too!

The cake I chose, Real Mango Rose, is exactly what it sounds like — thin layers of mango arranged to look like a giant rose, so it was gorgeous from the moment I saw it🌹

I brought it for a family birthday, and the second I opened the box, everyone was going on about how pretty it was. I felt so proud´͈ ᵕ `͈ ♡°◌̊

And now for the most important part — the taste! Honestly, in my family Chef Cho is strongly associated with strawberry cake, so I was curious how the mango would be. Turns out they're great at mango too...🥹 A true Seoul cake spot after all!

There was plenty of mango, but more than that, the fruit itself was really sweet and fresh. With mango, even a slightly off batch can throw off the whole flavor, but the mango we had that day was so sweet and delicious that my family joked it tasted like the mango in the bingsu (shaved ice dessert) from that famous Shin X hotel.

And what I loved again was the fresh cream! If it had been heavy and sweet on top of the already-sweet mango, I think I would've gotten sick of it quickly, but the cream was really light, so it paired perfectly with the mango. With everyone in my family loving the Mango Rose this time too, Chef Cho has now become the place we naturally think of whenever we need a fruit cake.🥭

Chef Cho is a Seoul cake spot I can confidently recommend. If you don't want to fail on the cake for an important party or gathering, grab a Chef Cho cake. ᐟ. ᐟ Everyone will be impressed🫢💛
