Today I'm sharing a baked-goods spot near Balsan Station that pulled me in with the smell of sweet, buttery bread. It's Byway Bakers Balsan Station.
📍 Byway Bakers Balsan Station
This place is genuinely hard to walk past — the nutty butter smell hits you every time you go by. Today I finally came back with my arms full of delicious desserts.
Inside Byway Bakers Balsan Station: mood and display
The moment I walked in, freshly baked pastries and breads of all kinds were neatly displayed.

There were way more financier varieties than I expected, so I had a happy dilemma trying to decide. In the end, I picked fig financier, salty financier, pecan pie financier, and — because the basics matter most — salt bread!

How does the fig financier taste?
First up was the fig financier.

Between the financier's signature chewy inside and crisp outside were plump pieces of real fig that burst with juice. Every bite released the fig's natural sweetness, which paired really well with the buttery flavor. It's not overly sweet, so even people who don't like very sugary desserts could enjoy this one.

Salty financier: sweet and salty done right
Second was the salty financier, and it was the textbook definition of sweet-and-salty. The outside was crisp while the inside stayed dense and moist, and the light dusting of salt on top pushed the buttery sweetness to another level. Paired with a cup of Americano, it was the perfect combo for melting away stress. If you're into sweet-and-salty flavors, I'd definitely recommend grabbing one of these.
Pecan pie financier: peak nutty flavour
Third was the pecan pie financier.

I want to call this the absolute peak of nuttiness. Pecans were packed on top of the financier without a single gap, so every bite delivered a serious crunch of nutty texture. The crisp, nutty flavor of pecan pie combined with the financier's dense body made just one piece feel incredibly satisfying. I'd recommend this as the top pick for anyone who loves that distinct nutty richness.

Warming the salt bread in an air fryer
Last, I tried the bakery classic — salt bread.

Byway Bakers' salt bread has a nicely crisp exterior and a moist inside that pulls apart along its layers. Bite in and a rich burst of butter flows out from the buttery pocket inside.

The salty topping and buttery flavor kept balancing each other out so well that I never got tired of it, right to the last bite. Give it a quick spin in the air fryer and it comes out warm and even tastier, just like it's freshly baked.

Are Byway Bakers financiers good for gifting?
Overall, the desserts at Byway Bakers Balsan Station felt made with care, without skimping on ingredients. Each financier had its own clear personality, which made choosing between them genuinely fun. The packaging was clean and well done, too, so it seemed like a great light gift for friends or acquaintances.

If you're near Balsan Station or Magok and craving crisp-outside, chewy-inside financiers or nutty salt bread, be sure to stop by Byway Bakers! It was a very satisfying dessert time.
