Today I visited Byway Bakers Balsan Station, a financier and salt bread spot near Balsan Station and Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station. It's famous for crispy-outside, chewy-inside financiers, so word of mouth has been strong. Plus you can try the Wakppu salt bread that's hot right now! Here's my review of the buttery financiers.

Where is Byway Bakers Balsan Station, and what is it like?

Byway Bakers Balsan Station sits right in front of the Deungchon Jugong Complex 3 apartments near Balsan Station. It's tucked in an alley rather than on a main road, so it's quiet and cozy — a great spot to relax with coffee and dessert.

Being in an alley with little car traffic, Byway Bakers Balsan Station feels calm and cozy for spending time.

Against a beige background, the orange lettering spelling out Byway Bakers has a real sense of style and stands out nicely.

They're also running a September promotion — order corn cheese salt bread with an americano or café latte in the morning and you can enjoy it at a discounted price!

Financier and salt bread packages are also always discounted, so buy several and enjoy them at a good price. Plus, packages come gift-boxed, which makes them perfect for giving to friends or family!

The only downside of this place: it's closed on Wednesdays, so you can't get the delicious financiers or salt bread that day — if you think you'll be craving sugar on a Wednesday, buy in advance the day before 🙄

Inside Byway Bakers: seating and the bread display

Maybe because sweet desserts are the draw, even at 4pm on a weekend the inside was full of customers.

As soon as I walked in, a sweet scent hit my nose — the culprit being these guys in the photo. Even late in the day they kept restocking the bread, which tells you the turnover is good, and that means the taste should be too.

Inside there were about 4 tables, and there was also 1 table set up outside.

What's on the menu at Byway Bakers Balsan Station?

The drink menu has a wide selection — coffee, tea, cream lattes, ades, and more. There's also yogurt strawberry ice cream and affogato!

And for desserts, the display case had a huge variety — salt bread, financiers, croissants, baguettes, sandwiches, butter rice cakes, and egg tarts. Just looking at the shapes made everything look so delicious, I struggled to take photos without drooling 😋

The financiers especially came in the widest variety — salty (salt), almond chocolate, egg cheese, Oreo, fig, vanilla, pistachio, and pecan pie.

The salt bread comes in plain, mocha, ham cheese, egg, and corn cheese, and egg tarts come in golden (plain) and apple cinnamon.

There was also a range of other breads on hand — croissants, baguettes, sandwiches, and more. Every single one looked genuinely mouthwatering.

There's a fridge at the counter too, with even more tempting desserts inside!

They even have the once-super-hot dubai-chewy cookies. There's also Dubai chocolate salt bread, fig pistachio salt bread, and fig pistachio tart. Fig is in season right now so there are a lot of fig desserts!

And they have the famous Wakppu salt bread that's trending on Reels and Shorts lately — filled with shine muscat grapes and yogurt whipped cream. How good must that be? I need to try the Wakppu salt bread next time!

The 5-piece financier gift box and how long it keeps

I bought the 5-piece financier package, and the paper box it came in was so cute. It's the perfect size to give as a gift.

I hadn't eaten many financiers before, but everything looked so delicious I ended up buying five. Let me tell you what I got and how each one tasted.

Salty financier (No. 1)

The most popular item at Byway Bakers, the salty financier. You get a savory buttery aroma along with a soft bread texture.

The outside is firm and doesn't crumble, and biting in gives a rich, chewy texture that makes it even more fun to eat.

What's great about this one, topped only with salt, is how clean and savory it tastes. They say a little bit of saltiness heightens sweetness, right? The financier's own sweet, savory flavor really shines here.

Almond chocolate financier (No. 2)

The second most popular, the almond chocolate financier. Just looking at it makes your mouth water from the sweet chocolate.

Almond chocolate is my favorite chocolate. You get sweetness and nuttiness at once, plus the soft bread soaked in buttery flavor — full sugar recharge in one bite!

The chocolate's sweetness even lifts your mood. If you love sweets, this is a must-pick.

Egg cheese financier (No. 3)

Third up, the famous egg cheese financier. Egg cheese has been a huge trend lately, right? And now there's an egg cheese flavored financier too!!!

The look alone is overwhelming. There's even cookie bits inside the rich egg cheese chocolate. Something that looks this good has to taste amazing — I caught myself grabbing one without even thinking.

One bite in... it's dizzyingly sweet. It's such a dopamine hit that I actually laughed out loud while eating it. Truly the king of richness, with a deep melty cheese flavor. Plus the bread itself is cheese-colored, so it looks pretty too, and the savory, funky cheese aroma was the best. In my book, this is number one.

Pecan pie financier

Thinking I should pick something a bit more 'healthy,' I got the pecan pie financier, piled high with pecans.

With so many pecans on top, you get a crunchy nutty texture and rich flavor, and overall it was less sweet with a fuller, nuttier taste in comparison.

What really stands out about this one is the cinnamon — the aroma hits your nose before you even take a bite, and it keeps spreading through your mouth as you chew, which would pair really well with a hot americano.

Fig financier

The fig-topped financier looks really upscale. Just from looking at it, you can imagine the fun, poppy texture of biting into the seeds.

One bite gives you that tangy-sweet fig flavor, and it's truly chewy through and through, so you get that deep fruity aroma throughout the chew. Plus there's fruit baked into the bread itself, so you get layered flavors.
