Songni-dan-gil jokbal restaurant for spicy day drinking: Narae Jokbal

In short

Narae Jokbal Songpa Direct Branch is a jokbal (pig's trotters) and bossam (boiled pork wraps) restaurant in the Songni-dan-gil alley on Baekjegobun-ro 45-gil in Songpa, Seoul. The writer went for the gabrisal bossam but ordered the Bobul Set — bossam, fire jokbal, sundubu-jjigae and makguksu — and ate it from 3pm with makgeolli. The gabrisal bossam melts in the mouth, but the fire jokbal, about as spicy as buldak, is the best dish at Narae Jokbal.

Great value gabrisal bossam in Songni-dan-gil

Narae Jokbal Songpa Direct Branch Bobul Set spread

Today I visited Narae Jokbal, located in Songni-dan-gil in Songpa, Seoul. I came because I wanted to try the gabrisal bossam but ended up completely falling for the fire jokbal 🔥🔥🔥🔥 The weather was so nice that a daytime makgeolli session felt perfect. Does everyone like spicy food?? I personally love fire jokbal, and that collagen-packed goodness is so tasty 🤭 Let me introduce it right away.

A jokbal restaurant that looks more like a wine bar from outside

Narae Jokbal Songpa Direct Branch sits in a Songpa alley, but the exterior looks nothing like a jokbal restaurant — more like a stylish Western-style eatery. It's a large space too, so it stands out. There's a friendly vibe that almost feels like a pho place or a school-food-style casual spot, but once you walk in, it's jokbal haha. So it seems like a good spot for both friend gatherings and dates.

Seating and atmosphere at Narae Jokbal 🪑 room for group dinners

Once you step inside Narae Jokbal Songpa Direct Branch, the interior is clean overall and comfortable to eat in without feeling stuffy. True to a jokbal restaurant, it has a relaxed vibe for sitting down to eat or have a drink, so I'd highly recommend it for dinner gatherings or work dinners 👍 The seating is mostly tables, making it convenient for larger groups too. It can accommodate big parties, so it seems well suited as a meeting spot.

The self-bar 🥬 wrap vegetables, side dishes and a draft beer machine

There's a self-bar set up, so you can comfortably grab any side dishes or extras you're missing. While eating jokbal, you tend to reach for more wrap vegetables or side dishes, and it's nice being able to grab as much as you need — it's kept clean, and the lettuce is cool and fresh 🥬 There's also a draft beer machine, great for a cold drink on a hot day, but of course jokbal calls for makgeolli haha. It's only 3pm but let's go for it haha 💨

Narae Jokbal menu 🍴 half-and-half plates, sets and lunch specials

On top of the basic jokbal and bossam, there's a half-and-half option and set menus, so it's easy to pick and choose when visiting with several people 👍 If you order a set, it comes with an appropriate amount without needing extra sides, and the lunch specials give you good value for money 🐽

What is in the Bobul Set? 🐰 bossam, fire jokbal, sundubu-jjigae, makguksu

Bobul Set = bossam + fire jokbal + sundubu-jjigae + makguksu

Makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) — pineapple is the twist

Makguksu

The makguksu had a tangy-sweet sauce with a nutty edge, which went well with the jokbal and bossam. The sauce wasn't too heavy, so its fresh flavor cut through the richness of the fatty meat nicely. Adding fresh fruit is the twist here — pineapple gives it a refreshing, unique flavor 🍍✨✨

Sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew) — a palate reset after the bossam

Sundubu-jjigae included in the Bobul Set
Sundubu-jjigae

The soft tofu went down smoothly and the broth was slightly spicy, making it a great palate reset after the bossam! Since bossam can feel rich with fat, it pairs even better with the stew. Also great as a drinking snack 💕

Gabrisal bossam (pork jowl-cut wraps) — melts in your mouth

Gabrisal bossam

If the fire jokbal is the bold, intense dish, the gabrisal bossam balances things out with softness. This was my first time trying gabrisal bossam, and it's genuinely so tender it just melts once it's in your mouth. Wrap it in kimchi or vegetables and you can't stop eating! Recommended if you like bossam that's tender and glossy.

Fire jokbal — buldak-level spicy and perfect with makgeolli

Fire jokbal

There's a gentle smoky char, and the spicy-sweet sauce is soaked deep into the chewy jokbal. Wow, the fire jokbal is genuinely delicious — it's the number one dish here. Rather than just heat, the savory sweet-and-salty sauce hits first, with the spiciness rising after, making it the perfect drinking snack! The fire jokbal has that deep, spicy sauce flavor 🔥 Think buldak-level spice. Goes perfectly with makgeolli haha.

Service at Narae Jokbal 🙇‍♀️

Since I could grab things myself from the self-bar, I didn't have to keep calling the staff over, which was convenient. All the staff were kind, and it was a comfortable place to eat haha.

Number one fire jokbal, paired well with tangy-sweet makguksu — a Songpa jokbal spot worth knowing!
