In short
Hoegi Wang Galbitang is a galbitang (beef short rib soup) restaurant on Imun-ro in Hwigyeong-dong, Dongdaemun, Seoul, near Hoegi Station and Kyung Hee University Hospital. On a day with a wide temperature swing, we ordered one restorative galbitang (16,000 won) and one aronsatae galbitang made with beef shank (19,000 won) with our parents, and got a clear broth, tender king-size ribs, and doraji muchim (seasoned bellflower root) and seokbakji (radish kimchi) on the side. A visit to Hoegi Wang Galbitang, a restaurant near Hoegi Station known for its rich, clear broth and generous portions of wang galbi (large beef short ribs).

Why we took our parents to Hoegi Wang Galbitang as the seasons turned
With the temperature swings getting bigger these days, I went looking for a warming meal to share with my parents, and found this restaurant known for its rich broth, haha.

Thanks to the clear broth simmered for a long time and the tender meat that fell right off the bone, it left my stomach feeling wonderfully settled!
Hoegi Wang Galbitang: location near Hoegi Station, hours and parking
Hoegi Wang Galbitang is located at 54 Imun-ro, 1st floor, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (near Hwigyeong-dong / Kyung Hee University / Hoegi Station). It's open daily from 10:30 to 21:00, with no closed days.
As for parking, there's space in front of the restaurant for about two cars, so it's handy to know if you're driving over, haha.
It's conveniently located near Hoegi Station and Kyung Hee University Hospital, and if you order takeout, rice isn't included, but they give you double the broth instead!
What we ordered at Hoegi Wang Galbitang, and how it tasted
After sitting down and looking over the menu, we chose one classic Wongi Hoebok Galbitang (₩16,000) and one Aron Satae Galbitang (₩19,000) loaded with meat, haha.

Not long after ordering, the soup came out steaming hot in a stone bowl, and just as their sign explains — bringing in 120 kg of ribs daily, soaking out the blood, and washing them carefully over twelve hours — you could immediately taste the care that went into it.
🍲 Restorative galbitang (16,000 won)
The signature dish, with a thick, long wang galbi bone piled heavily on top of the stone bowl.

Simmered for so long that the meat slid right off the bone as soon as I lifted it with tongs — the texture was that tender and soft.

With no artificial seasoning, the broth was clear and deep without any heaviness, growing more savory the more I drank.
Dipping the pulled meat lightly in the special sauce let me really enjoy the meat's own nutty flavor.
🥩 Aronsatae beef shank galbitang (19,000 won)
A hearty bowl piled generously with big wang galbi plus thin, thick-cut slices of aron satae (beef shank) with the blood drained out.

The chewy yet moist texture unique to aron satae was appealing, and the more I chewed, the more clean juices came out, full of the meat's own flavor.

The clear, clean galbitang broth soaked moistly into the grain of the aron satae, giving a different, varied texture from the rib cut, haha.

Side dishes and the self-serve bar with unlimited rice
The default side dishes on the table at Hoegi Wang Galbitang were also very satisfying. There's seokbakji (radish kimchi) and baechu kimchi made with radish they cut and pickle themselves, plus doraji muchim (seasoned bellflower root), haha.

The spicy-sweet, crunchy doraji muchim and seokbakji really suited my taste.

Putting a bit of doraji muchim on top of the meat cut right through the richness of the meat and made for a refreshing combination.

Order one menu item per person and you get unlimited refills of rice and side dishes at the self-serve bar. Pouring hot broth over rice and topping it with crunchy seokbakji had me finishing the whole bowl clean.

Toward the end of the meal, I grabbed some sweet barley gangjeong (crispy barley snack) and a cool glass of 17-grain misugaru (grain drink) from the self-serve area — a nice full finish with dessert too.

Inside the restaurant: seating from solo counters to group tables
The interior, centered on natural wood, is pleasant and tidy. With everything from solo seats for comfortable solo dining to tables for larger groups, it's a good fit for a lunch spot in Hwigyeong-dong or a gathering place.

It's also easy to get to, being a restaurant near Hoegi Station where parking is easy to find.

Is Hoegi Wang Galbitang worth it for a meal with parents?
Between the tender meat, the deep broth, and the doraji muchim and seokbakji side dishes, it added up to a satisfying meal, haha.

With its neat table setting, it's a restaurant near Hoegi Station I'd like to return to, and one well equipped with group seating too.
Next time, I'm thinking of trying the spicy galbitang or the braised galbi-jjim!
