Frozen pork belly grilling on the griddle

Today's post is about Chodaebak Naengsam Pyeongnae-Hopyeong Branch, where the pork belly was seriously delicious — one of my favorite Pyeongnae-Hopyeong restaurants. When you're stressed, good meat is the answer, right? I ate my fill of frozen pork belly and all the sides, and both the meat and the side dishes were satisfying enough that I wanted to write it up :)

Chodaebak Naengsam is on a food alley near the Pyeongnae-dong community center. You can park in front of the store, but the alley tends to get crowded with cars, so I found it easier to park at the nearby public lot and walk over.

Sign confirming Dodram Hanwoo pork certification

Also, Chodaebak Naengsam is a certified Dodram Hanwoo pork seller using domestic Korean pork. Onnuri gift certificate payment and Namyangju local currency are both accepted, which I liked — these days I get extra happy when a place offers these kinds of payment perks :)

Interior view with group seating area

The interior was clean overall and had a comfortable atmosphere. The round tables seat about 4 to 6 people, and there's also group seating on one side, so it looked like a good option for family dinners, group meetups, or company dinners.

Chodaebak Naengsam menu: why the combo set is good value

What comes in the Chodaebak set menu

Menu board listing frozen pork belly and set menus

The main menu at Chodaebak Naengsam is, of course, frozen pork belly! They also had frozen pork collar, gochujang pork belly, wu-gyeopsal (thick-cut pork belly), and other meat options.

There's also a combo set that lets you try several kinds of meat at once, so we ordered that. It comes with 2 to 4 types of meat plus sides like steamed egg and minari, so if you want to try a bit of everything, the set seems like a good choice.

What side dishes does Chodaebak Naengsam serve?

Side dishes that pair well with grilled pork

Side dishes laid out on the table to go with the meat
Barley tea served in a Del Monte bottle

After ordering the meat, the nostalgic barley tea came out first. Barley tea always feels extra welcoming when it comes in a Del Monte bottle, haha.

Steamed egg and side dishes served together

Next came a generous spread of steamed egg and side dishes — and the variety was really impressive.

Plate of kimchi, bean sprouts, and mu-saengchae
Side dishes with pink sausage, cheese, and mushrooms

Kimchi, bean sprouts, mu-saengchae (spicy radish salad), fernbrake, pink sausage, cheese, mushrooms, and sauces — a wide range of things that go well with grilled meat. As someone who loves piling on side dishes while eating meat, this was exactly my kind of setup.

How generous is the combo set for two?

Finally, the Chodaebak combo set for two arrived. The portion was bigger than I expected! Two servings of frozen pork belly, one serving of pork collar, plus minari, mushrooms, and potato all came together.

Frozen pork belly placed on the square griddle

The meat gets grilled beautifully on a square griddle. Since the frozen pork belly is thin, it cooks quickly — that seems to be its advantage. No long waits; you can dig in right away, which I loved.

Kimchi and bean sprouts grilled together on the griddle

I normally love eating grilled meat with kimchi, but here the bean sprouts and shredded scallions were also delicious, so I mixed in a bit of everything.

Pork collar grilled to a golden brown
Close-up of fully cooked frozen pork belly

The pork collar had a clean, mild flavor, while the frozen pork belly had that nutty, distinctive frozen-pork-belly taste come through properly. Still, regular pork belly is more to my taste, haha.

Lettuce wrap with pork belly and shredded scallions
Pink sausage grilling alongside the meat

Wrapping the pork belly in lettuce with shredded scallions, I just kept eating more and more. We also grilled the pink sausage on the griddle, and with all the side dishes piled on, I was full before I knew it. Pork belly really is the best cure for stress!

Chewy honeycomb pork skin, worth adding

Additional order of honeycomb tripe
Honeycomb tripe grilled together with cheese

It felt like a waste to stop at just the meat, so we added honeycomb tripe too. The chewy texture is really the charm of tripe. Grilled until nicely browned, it was nutty and chewy and delicious. Adding cheese on top of it gave it a whole different flavor! Even when I was already full, this kind of thing still found room, haha.

Worth a return visit: which gatherings suit Chodaebak Naengsam?

Overall, Chodaebak Naengsam, a Pyeongnae-Hopyeong favorite of mine, was satisfying with generous portions of meat and a wide variety of side dishes. Between the frozen pork belly, pork collar, and honeycomb tripe, I really felt like I had a full, proper meal.

It's especially good for a group to visit and share a bit of everything, so it seems like a solid option for family dinners, gatherings with friends, or company dinners. If you're looking for good frozen pork belly or pork belly in the Pyeongnae-dong area, this place is worth a visit. I'll definitely think of it again, so I'd say my return visit rate is 100%! A day of eating good meat and shaking off all my stress. Thanks for the meal today! 🥩
