Dangsan Station Korean BBQ with yang fried rice finish: Chodaechang

In short

Chodaechang Dangsan Station is a Blue Ribbon-listed daechang (grilled beef intestine) and gopchang restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Taeyoung Star Valley building by Dangsan Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. This visit skipped the assorted platter for three servings of daechang alone, grilled and cut by the staff, then finished with yang bokkeumbap (beef tripe fried rice) wrapped in seaweed. A strong hood keeps the smell off your clothes, and with a 10% Naver Reservation discount for 5-6pm visits and one free corkage bottle, Chodaechang is an easy pick for group dinners.

Hello! As someone who loves daechang (grilled beef intestines) enough to need it on a regular basis, this is my favorite daechang spot — I went back to Chodaechang, a daechang restaurant I really rate.

Where Chodaechang Dangsan Station is, and its Blue Ribbon listing

Chodaechang is on the 2nd floor of the Taeyoung Star Valley building. See that Blue Ribbon mark visible right from the entrance? You can trust it and go on in.

10% off with Naver Reservation and free corkage at Chodaechang

There's an event where you get a 10% discount for visiting between 5 and 6pm through Naver Reservation. It's surprisingly hard to find corkage-free places, but Chodaechang gives you one bottle free.

There's plenty of seating inside, but so many people were already eating that there wasn't a free table — and then just one opened up right on time.

How much food is three servings of daechang à la carte?

Last time I visited Chodaechang I ordered the assorted platter and tried a bit of everything, but this time I focused purely on daechang. Order three servings and this is how much you get.

Three servings of daechang served on a plate

One of the great things about Chodaechang is that the staff grill it deliciously for you. Grilling this stuff is surprisingly tricky and hands-on — especially when it's seasoned! But since they grill it for you, you can just wait without worrying.

Table setting and side dishes at Chodaechang Dangsan Station

When you order daechang, you get the standard setup — a variety of vegetables and dipping sauces. The side dishes are tasty. Nothing to skip! Just exactly what you need!!

Kkwari peppers, which cut the richness, get grilled alongside too. We were chatting while listening to the sizzling sound as everything turned and cooked nicely.

The hood that keeps BBQ smoke off your clothes

On top of that, the hood sucks up the smoke instantly, so no smell gets into your clothes or hair — I genuinely love that! It's rare to find a gopchang or makchang place like this.

Once it's cooked enough, they cut it into bite-sized pieces and grill it a bit more so it's easy to eat. Since it's seasoned, flipping it often while grilling makes it even more delicious.

How the daechang tastes: flavor and texture

Because the ingredients themselves are fresh, it's chewy and savory with no off smell at all — and on top of that, this Blue Ribbon place has friendly service too.

Even though it's always busy with a steady stream of customers, the staff still take good care of everyone and clearly pay attention to hygiene at all times. Satisfying down to the smallest detail.

Nearly fully cooked daechang on the grill

So there's a clear reason so many people are already regulars here. The seasoning is well-balanced, and the daechang is savory, delicious, chewy, and yet clean-tasting all at once.

Crispy outside, soft inside, with the seasoning and sauce blending together for even more flavor — I ate it with lettuce salad and the combination was really satisfying.

Couples on dates, people on blind dates, friends, coworkers — all kinds of groups visit here, and every menu item at Chodaechang is delicious no matter who you're with.

Grilled daechang set up as a drinking side dish

It's a fantastic side dish that just makes you want a drink. They also have plenty of meal-type side dishes so you can make a full dinner of it — don't forget to order one.

Yang bokkeumbap, the beef tripe fried rice finish

I ordered yangbokkeumbap (mutton fried rice) since I needed something more filling. I tried it to clean up the slight richness left over from eating daechang.

They give you the well-fried rice along with seaweed to wrap it in, and the rice is genuinely delicious. Maybe because they pressed it down while frying, it had this extra chewy texture that kept me going back for more.

The fried rice has a bold seasoning that blends well with the oil, and I kept reaching for more. If you visit Chodaechang, I'd definitely recommend trying the fried rice too.
