Is there a wait at 8pm on a Thursday? Inside the restaurant

I visited around 8pm on a Thursday, and the place was already nearly full with a waiting list...! Luckily one seat was open so we sat right down 🙉!!!!! Looking around, I noticed there were waiting seats and even a baby chair 💖

True to being known for aged pork, the showcase was full of meat aging away nicely 🥩 They said the aging method reflects 10 years of know-how, which made me even more excited.

Interior and seating at Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi

This is what the interior looked like, and the only other open seat besides ours had a 'reserved' sign on it...🫢 There were especially a lot of families here!

Ordering two servings of Jeju teukmok-sal and one of Jeju ddotgalbi

They say Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi only uses top-grade pork from 'Jeju Montrak' 🫶 We ordered

  • Jeju teukmok-sal (premium pork neck) x2
  • Jeju ddotgalbi (pork rib meat) x1

first!!

The famous white kimchi: why eating it plain misses the point

Once we ordered, they brought out the side dishes. That white kimchi is famously delicious, people talk about it a lot 🫢 So as soon as the sides came out I cut a piece and tried it right away — really good...🩷 We thought it was just a regular side dish, so we cut it up small and ate it plain...! But there was another secret hidden in it... dun dun (continued below) 👀

Side dishes including the famous white kimchi

Staff grill every cut, and the white kimchi goes into the pork fat

First, the meat we ordered arrived! They said the pigs are raised eco-friendly in a clean, unpolluted area, and maybe that's why the color looked so good 🙉

The staff grilled everything for us!!!!! I loved this so much 😭 The staff members zipped between multiple tables, grilling with perfect timing..👍 They were like masters...

They grilled that delicious kimchi from earlier, pressing it down firmly into pork fat to sear it ???🤩 Boss... you really know your food......❤️‍🔥 Kimchi that was already tasty became super umami and even more delicious!!!!!

Jeju teukmok-sal with the house garlic and salted-shrimp sauce

Once the meat was done, they set it to one side, and put the kimchi back in its bowl too haha. The Jeju pork neck was packed with juice, and I genuinely thought the meat was so good while eating it... 🤤 Among the dipping sauces was a special garlic-salted shrimp sauce that tasted of garlic with a nutty note like perilla powder — honestly a sauce I'd never had before in my life, and it was so good I kept dipping into it again and again 👍

Jeju ddotgalbi: bone-in pork belly, with the grilled bones as a treat

Next they grilled the Jeju ddotgalbi right away. Ddotgalbi is Jeju dialect for pork ribs! It's Jeju ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly) but bone-in, so I thought it was unusual to have rib bones attached — the belly itself was delicious, and grilling and eating those bones at the end turned out to be a real treat!!!

I liked both cuts, but the Jeju ddotgalbi was even more delicious to me 💖 Still, both were so good... you should really try both (?) definitely...

Naengmyeon and rice enjoyed to finish the meal

Is Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi a good spot for a Geomdan group dinner or date?

We finished up with naengmyeon (cold noodles) and a bowl of rice, both delicious ❤️ I had no idea there was such a great BBQ restaurant in Danghha-dong, and I'm so happy I found out this time 🤪 If you're in Geomdan looking for a spot for a get-together, a date, or just really good meat, be sure to visit Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi Geomdan Main Branch!!!
