Suji noodle house: insaeng jjolmyeon and soboro bibimbap, Chilseong

In short

Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch is a handmade-noodle restaurant in Seongbok-dong, Suji-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi. On a weekday evening a family shared the signature insaeng jjolmyeon (chewy spicy cold noodles), gogi soboro bibimbap (minced meat rice bowl) and Bukseong-ro udon, plus tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and tteokkkochi (grilled rice cake skewers), and parked free in the restaurant's own lot. The noodles and sides at Chilseong Jemyeonso were good enough that the only regret was the portion size.

When you've lost your appetite, or you're craving something spicy, tangy and cool in noodle form, a bowl of jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles) with properly made noodles and savory bibim sauce can bring your appetite roaring back.

This time I visited Chilseong Jemyeonso, a well-known Suji restaurant famous around the Yongin Suji area for its outstanding handmade noodles and distinctive dishes, on a weekday evening with my whole family.

From the signature Insaeng Jjolmyeon (literally "jjolmyeon of a lifetime") to the hearty Gogi Soboro Bibimbap, the street-food-stall-style Bukseong-ro Udon, and the essential sides of tteokbokki and nostalgic tteokkkochi, we ordered generously — here's my honest review.

Parking and the weekday evening mood at Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch

Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch has its own dedicated parking space, so parking is free. Finding a spot in the restaurant-packed alleys of Seongbok-dong, Suji is always a headache when you drive in.

Stress-free, convenient free parking: the restaurant's own parking area was pleasantly laid out, so we could park without worrying about fees and walk right in. For a family meal or one with kids, a short walk and easy parking matter most, and this place delivered on that from the start.

Busy even on a weekday evening, with friendly service: even though it wasn't the weekend, the restaurant was already packed with customers on a weekday evening, proving why it's a go-to Seongbok-dong, Suji restaurant. Despite being busy, the staff and owner greeted us with bright smiles and kind guidance, making the whole meal a pleasant experience.

To try a good variety, we ordered Insaeng Jjolmyeon, Gogi Soboro Bibimbap, Bukseong-ro Udon, tteokbokki, and tteokkkochi.

What is insaeng jjolmyeon, the signature dish?

Insaeng Jjolmyeon topped with vegetables at Chilseong Jemyeonso

Springy, chewy noodles with a special bibim sauce: true to the restaurant's identity as a noodle specialist, these noodles were nothing like the tough jjolmyeon you find at ordinary bunsik (snack food) shops. Chewy with each bite yet cutting cleanly, the noodles paired perfectly with crunchy vegetables and a tangy-sweet-spicy sauce hitting a golden ratio.

Addictive enough that you can't put your chopsticks down: one bite in and you immediately understand why it's called "jjolmyeon of a lifetime" — the depth of flavor is remarkable. It was so delicious we practically inhaled it, and honestly wished the portion had been a little bigger.

Gogi soboro bibimbap: a filling, nutty rice bowl

Sweet and salty minced meat topping: fluffy rice is neatly topped with finely stir-fried minced meat (soboro) and a variety of vegetable garnishes. Not too intense, with a sweet yet clean savoriness, it was perfect alongside the noodle dishes for a filling dose of carbs and protein.

Bukseong-ro udon and its deep, clean broth

Bukseong-ro Udon topped with fried tofu skin and crown daisy greens

A warm, hearty broth with street-stall soul: the deep broth warmed us up on a chilly evening, generously topped with fried tofu skin, crown daisy greens and dried seaweed flakes, capturing the flavor of the old Bukseong-ro street-food alley.

A bite of spicy jjolmyeon followed by a sip of warm udon broth cleared the palate perfectly — a fantastic pairing.

Tteokbokki and tteokkkochi: the sides worth adding

Spicy-sweet seasoned tteokbokki

Chewy, spicy-sweet tteokbokki: the sauce soaked all the way into the rice cakes for a satisfying chew, making it the perfect classic bunsik side to pair with the jjolmyeon or bibimbap.

Nostalgic tteokkkochi coated in sauce

Crispy tteokkkochi that brings back memories: rice cake skewers fried crisp on the outside and chewy inside, generously coated in a spicy-sweet secret sauce, delivering the same nostalgic taste I remember buying outside school as a kid.

How does Chilseong Jemyeonso work for a family dinner?

Chilseong Jemyeonso was a well-crafted Seongbok Station-area restaurant, standing out for its chewy, painstakingly made noodles and homestyle side dishes.

Every dish was made with real skill, and we cleaned our plates so thoroughly that the overall portions felt slightly small — a sign of how satisfying it was. With friendly service and convenient free parking, it's a solid choice for a family meal.

If you're near Suji-gu or Seongbok-dong and craving properly made jjolmyeon, warm udon, or specialty bunsik, I highly recommend stopping by!
