My mom and I were trying to figure out what to eat, and I found myself wanting a really solid, filling meal for once. Right around then, a friend recommended a place known as one of the best Korean set-meal spots in Masan — Masan Ssamjangjip, the place I'm introducing today. Masan Ssamjangjip hasn't been open long in the Masan area, but it's already gaining a reputation as a go-to hanjeongsik spot, known for its tidy array of Korean side dishes paired with a hearty main. The room-style seating meant we could eat privately, and being able to reserve ahead was a nice plus. Lots of families bringing their parents along too!

Looking at the menu, there are three main set options to choose from: jeyuk jeongsik (spicy stir-fried pork set) at ₩14,900, braised beef short rib set at ₩20,000, and grilled mackerel set at ₩17,000. There are also plenty of add-ons — extra side dishes, an upsized short rib portion, dakbal (spicy chicken feet), stir-fried beef intestines, and more — so you can adjust to fit your group size. The rule is one menu per person for elementary-age kids and up, with separate kids' pricing for ages 4–7, so it's worth keeping in mind if you're visiting as a family — I'd recommend it as a great spot to eat with kids in Masan.

How many side dishes come with the 14,900 won spicy pork set for two?

The moment we sat down, my eyes went wide at the spread — the table looked like it was about to buckle under the side dishes. They just kept coming, I honestly wondered when it would stop!

By my count there were more than twenty side dishes set out at once — namul (seasoned vegetables), jangajji (pickled vegetables), jeotgal (salted seafood), jeon (savory pancakes), and muchim (seasoned salads), the variety really lived up to the 'Masan hanjeongsik' reputation. And every single one was delicious, honestly you could finish a whole bowl of rice on the side dishes alone!

The main dish, jeyuk-bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork), was coated in a sweet-and-spicy sauce, and wrapped in lettuce with rice it was seriously hard to stop reaching for more. We ordered the two-person set and the portion was pretty generous, and the doenjang stew (soybean paste soup) was loaded with mideoduck (sea squirt) — so good.

What really set this place apart was the wreong-ganjang, a strong-flavored ssamjang style dip made with mussels, perfect for wrapping ssam. On top of the main dish, we also got a jeyuk jorim (braised pork) served in a stone pot and buchujeon (chive pancake), which made the meal feel even more filling.

What impressed me most about Masan Ssamjangjip was the self-serve corner. There was omija tea (five-flavor berry tea) and coffee at the drinks station to pour freely, plus a basket of snacks like ppeongtwigi (puffed rice crackers) and ssalgangjeong (rice puffs), and a dessert corner with grapes, oranges, and tteok (rice cakes).

The most fun part was the self-serve ramyeon corner, with a variety of instant noodles, and it's the button-operated Hangang ramyeon, so it cooks itself and comes out tasting great. True to a spot known for great hanjeongsik in Masan, it's not just the side dishes but this whole self-serve corner that's packed in, so we finished up full and completely satisfied.

Who should eat at Masan Ssamjangjip?

This Masan hanjeongsik spot, Masan Ssamjangjip, has such a generous side dish spread and such a well-stocked self-serve corner that I can confidently recommend it to anyone looking for a great Korean set-meal restaurant in Masan, or a good place to eat with kids.
