Perilla oil makguksu and udon set at a Suji noodle spot: Chilseong

In short

Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch is a noodle restaurant on the first floor of a mixed-use building in Seongbok-dong, Suji, Yongin, right in front of Seongbokcheon stream. A family of four came for weekend lunch and ordered Chilseong bibim jjolmyeon (spicy chewy cold noodles), an udon set and deulgireum makguksu (buckwheat noodles with perilla oil), and both children finished the makguksu because it was seasoned just right and not greasy. With baby cups, baby cutlery and plenty of high chairs, Chilseong Jemyeonso pairs easily with a walk along Seongbokcheon afterwards.

Last weekend, the four of us visited Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch, a well-known spot in Seongbok-dong, Suji, Yongin.

Weekend lunch at Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji: the room and kiosk ordering

We went for weekend lunch, and sure enough, as a popular place it had quite a lot of customers. Still, since it's mostly noodle dishes, turnover is pretty fast, so it worked fine for a family outing. We checked the menu once before going in, and once inside you can also order from a kiosk — just so you know ^-^

What I liked most was that you can go straight for a walk right after eating. Seongbokcheon stream flows right in front of the main branch, so it's great for a light walk with the kids after the meal.

Chilseong bibim jjolmyeon set: spicy-sour sauce and piles of vegetables

I picked the Chilseong bibim jjolmyeon. The spicy-sour sauce paired with chewy noodles really woke up my appetite.

The noodles were especially springy and had a great chew — perfect for a weekend lunch, the kind of flavor you keep craving~

Another thing I loved — it was loaded with vegetables!

How is the broth in the udon set at Chilseong Jemyeonso?

My husband ordered the udon set.

Udon set served with pork cutlet

It's a set meal that comes with pork cutlet alongside the udon, so it's a good fit if you want a really filling meal. He'd been wanting udon and cutlet again, and he slurped it all down happily haha. I was honestly surprised too! The broth here was genuinely delicious, not some cheap dashi broth at all, ugh.

The noodles were also really springy and tasty — I'm usually not a fan of ordering udon at restaurants, but Chilseong Jemyeonso's reputation really is deserved!!! It was the best.

If you feel like noodles alone aren't quite enough, going with a set menu is a good option.

Deulgireum makguksu: the perilla oil noodles both kids finished

And the dish we ordered for the kids was deulgireum makguksu (perilla oil buckwheat noodles)!

Perilla oil makguksu ordered for the kids

Honestly, I was a little worried whether the kids would eat it well, but wow — both kids ate it up so well, I felt so proud! It wasn't that greasy, over-perilla-oiled kind of makguksu we'd had delivered from other places before, and I loved that so much!!! Just the right seasoning and noodles — really the best for kids!

The nutty perilla oil flavor wasn't overpowering, so it was light and easy to eat — a good choice when visiting with young kids.

They had a baby cup and baby cutlery set arranged so nicely, I was really satisfied.

Why Chilseong Jemyeonso works with kids: high chairs and pork cutlet

After finishing, my husband and I walked out patting our full bellies haha. Chilseong Jemyeonso has a wide range of noodle dishes — jjolmyeon, udon, makguksu — so there was plenty to choose from depending on taste, and it was especially satisfying that the kids ate the perilla oil makguksu so well.

The pork cutlet was crispy and delicious too hahaha. You should've seen the kids diving in, and my husband feeding them saying the cutlet was tasty too haha — he's such a sweetheart, really.

The water was set out nice and cold, and there were plenty of high chairs, which tells you how many families with kids come here! Besides us, there were a lot of other people out with their kids too ^^

A walk along Seongbokcheon stream after lunch

Chilseong Jemyeonso's main branch, our weekend spot in Seongbok-dong, Suji, Yongin, for our family of four. It was great that everyone in the family could eat something they liked, and having so many menu options was a big plus ^^ It was especially satisfying that the kids ate the perilla oil makguksu so well. It gets busy on weekends, but if your family likes noodles, it's worth a visit at least once.

Table at Chilseong Jemyeonso after finishing the meal

What I loved most is that Seongbokcheon stream is right in front, so you can go for a walk right after eating! If you're looking for a family outing spot in Suji, Yongin, pairing a meal at Chilseong Jemyeonso's main branch with a walk along Seongbokcheon is a great combo. It's inside a mixed-use commercial building, so make sure to check the direction before you go ^^

Eating a great meal with the kids and then going for a walk made for such a happy weekend morning : ) We even ran into a heron.

If you want a good meal plus a walk without traveling far on a weekend, this was a really solid course! Ahh, I can still taste that jjolmyeon^!^ Highly recommend.
