On a night walk near my place, I always notice new restaurants popping up, and a few days ago I heard about a hip new halal food spot that had brought over the soul of New York street food. I was so curious — I eat sandwiches and burgers all the time, but I haven't had many chances to try real kebabs or over rice. Wanting something healthy but a bit different for a meal, I happily set out on my walk and dropped by this appealing kebab restaurant in Sangam-dong, Zilhal Bros Sangam!

What is the restaurant like inside?

Walking a bit further inside the building past the Starbucks, I found Zilhal Bros Sangam super easily thanks to its eye-catching, bold red exterior. Since it had only recently opened, the interior was really pleasant and clean!

Right as you walk in, there's a kiosk on the right for easy ordering, and behind it, about 10 two-person tables lined up in a row — a space that felt perfectly suited for a solo meal or a cozy date.

I especially liked that the kitchen had clear glass walls, so I could see the hygienic cooking process happening live, which gave me a lot of trust. The menu was a little unfamiliar so I was hesitating, but the staff kindly explained the menu items and the sauce characteristics, which made ordering comfortable and pleasant.
How do the over rice plates and kebab taste?

To try a bit of everything, we ordered chicken over rice, lamb over rice (upgraded with +5,000 won to a set with fries and cola), and a chicken kebab. Overall, the sauces had a nicely spicy kick that never got overwhelming — really delicious!

Chicken over rice
On top of fluffy basmati rice sat a mountain of chicken, lightly grilled over an open flame. Crisp lettuce and fresh tomatoes added great texture, and the savory white sauce mixed with the tangy jalapeño-based red sauce in a golden ratio, exploding with incredible umami. The subtle spiciness was addictive and kept pulling me back for more.

Lamb over rice set
I worried the lamb might have a strong gamey smell, but that concern turned out to be unnecessary — the quality halal meat was grilled to give off only a subtle, fragrant char. The chewy texture of the lamb combined with the spicy-savory signature sauces soaking into every grain of rice made it impossible to put the spoon down. Generous portions and great fullness too — a truly deep flavor befitting the signature dish of this kebab restaurant in Sangam-dong. The freshly fried, crispy fries added to the set made the combo perfect.

Chicken kebab
Inside a hefty wrap that fit neatly in one hand, tender chicken and fresh vegetables were packed in without a single gap. Wrapped in a chewy tortilla instead of rice, it seemed like the perfect choice for enjoying a clean, convenient taste of New York vibes while out on a walk or during a busy lunch hour. The harmony of the ingredients came together beautifully in every bite.
