A budget-friendly Korean BBQ spot near Gangnam Station. Here's my report after thoroughly demolishing the meat, ramyeon, and sides at Bongu Hwarro!
Where Bongu Hwarro is near Gangnam Station, and what the inside looks like
Bongu Hwarro is a Korean BBQ restaurant up the slope of the food alley near Gangnam Station. It's on an uphill street, so it's super easy to find!
The interior was pretty spacious..! Totally fine for group dinners. Even with a group reservation locked in, they could probably still take individual walk-ins?
Since I'd made a reservation, they had my table set up in advance!

The pork belly and pork neck came out first. Showed up looking pale and gorgeous. And they were thick, which I loved!
The banchan (side dishes) to go with today's meat. Every single one of them was delicious, and they gave generous portions too, so I'm satisfied.
Bongu Hwarro brings the whole charcoal brazier to your table
Bongu Hwarro really does bring you an actual brazier..! Look closely and you'll see there's no gas line connected underneath — they just carry over a brazier full of charcoal and set it down;; I've never seen a Korean BBQ place do this before.
But the heat from this thing is no joke, so the meat cooks the second you put it on..! And it lasts forever, too..! I figured a brazier would burn out quickly, but not at all.
Pork belly at Bongu Hwarro
Quickly grilled, seriously delicious pork belly.
Wow, the pork belly here is genuinely great. The balance of fat to lean meat was just right. So good I got a little emotional, haha. If you're looking for good pork belly in Gangnam, highly recommend!
Eaten with the mu-mal랭이 (dried radish strips) banchan, how good could it possibly be..? This combo is a total umami explosion;;

Kept diligently grilling the beef rib meat too. By this point the fire had actually gotten even stronger, so you really could just eat it the second it hit the grill.
The beef rib meat, full of beefy aroma, was so good~ It's a budget-friendly spot, but the meat quality is so good I'd recommend it to anyone;;
Hangang ramyeon and the woobap set
Can't skip the Hangang ramyeon!
Following the instructions and letting it bubble away makes exactly the delicious Hangang ramyeon it's supposed to be! My friend and I kept saying 'why is this ramyeon so good' while slurping it down alongside the meat, haha. Cooking it the classic, proper way really is the best.
The woobap set — so many people were ordering it that I got curious and tried it too.
Woobap, which as you can see is fried rice, but it's ridiculously good. Exactly that flavor of rice stir-fried quickly in the leftover meat oil, along with bits of meat..! Fluffy and perfectly seasoned, so I shoveled it down, hehe.
Beef brisket doenjang stew. Woobap and beef brisket doenjang stew at this price.. total insane value..
Inside there was even a generous amount of beef brisket;; After eating grilled meat, then getting more meat as a side dipped in soup..perfect combo. If you'd rather have rice than naengmyeon as your side, highly recommend the woobap set!
Self-serve dessert ice cream, saved for next time
I knew about it from reading other reviews beforehand, but I forgot and just looked at the ice cream on my way out..! Bongu Hwarro's got dessert covered too;; They've got ice cream, and looking over there, they even set out toppings to add on..? Next time I'm going to properly finish the course with the ice cream too. A solid, filling dinner at a budget-friendly Korean BBQ spot near Gangnam Station, complete!
