I was hunting for somewhere to eat meat in Gangnam and ended up at Bongu Hwarro! There are already so many BBQ spots near Gangnam Station, right? This one's near CGV Gangnam, so it's super accessible. The size of the place caught my eye too.

And most of all, hearing it's a 20-year-old Gangnam Station meat restaurant this year made me even more curious haha.

Where is Bongu Hwarro? 5 minutes from Gangnam Station Exit 11, 150 seats

Bongu Hwarro's exterior signboard near CGV Gangnam

Bongu Hwarro is about a 5-minute walk from Gangnam Station Exit 11. You just head up between the CGV Gangnam buildings, and the big signboard makes it easy to spot from outside. (Watch out for a bit of an uphill slope ⭕️)

The spacious 150-seat interior hall of Bongu Hwarro

Walking in, the place was way bigger than it looked from outside. They say it's a 150-seat space, and the tables are fairly spaced out, giving it a relaxed overall vibe good for group visits. Since group reservations run from 2 people up to 100, it's worth keeping in mind for a Gangnam company dinner or group gathering spot!

Menu and banchan at Bongu Hwarro: 50% off extra meat orders

Bongu Hwarro has a wide range of meats, from woo-samgyeop (beef belly) to fresh pork belly, pork neck, galbisal (short rib meat), and even two-plus-grade hanwoo sirloin. They're currently running a 20th anniversary event where additional meat orders are 50% off, which is great for anyone here to eat meat properly. Once you order enough for your group, everything after that comes at half price!! (Total jackpot)

Basic banchan setup at Bongu Hwarro with lettuce, perilla leaves, and scallions

Once you order, they set up the basic banchan (side dishes) right away. Lettuce, perilla leaves, shredded scallions, kimchi, pickled radish and more — a nice variety that goes well with meat. As someone who loves wrapping meat in lettuce, I appreciated the generous amount of lettuce and perilla leaves!!

Pink sausages came out as one of the basic banchan, so I enjoyed them as a sort of appetizer before the meat arrived haha.

Charcoal grilling: beef belly 14,000 won, domestic pork belly 150g 15,000 won

Raw woo-samgyeop and domestic pork belly as ordered

What we ordered: ✔️ Woo-samgyeop (beef belly) ₩14,000 ✔️ Domestic pork belly 150g ₩15,000

Table with Bongu Hwarro's charcoal brazier set in place
Grill grate and meat placed on the charcoal brazier

True to the name Bongu Hwarro, it's not a regular griddle — you grill the meat directly over a charcoal brazier (hwaro) 👍🏻

Woo-samgyeop sizzling over the charcoal fire

They place the meat on the brazier piece by piece to grill, and honestly the sight of it sizzling over the charcoal is impossible to resist haha.

Golden-brown grilled woo-samgyeop
Close-up of woo-samgyeop on the brazier

You absolutely have to try the woo-samgyeop. Top-tier meat quality!!! So delicious. The marinade was soaked in perfectly, and I wanted more but was too full to eat any — that feeling ㅠㅠ

It had just the right amount of fat mixed in so it wasn't dry when grilled, just savory, and cooked golden brown it was truly a hit...💗

A piece of woo-samgyeop topped with scallion sauce
A perilla leaf wrap with woo-samgyeop and scallions

It's delicious even plain, but the combo of scallion sauce and woo-samgyeop 🥹💓 Wrapped in perilla leaf, it just kept going in. What matters most when looking for a Gangnam Station meat restaurant is ultimately the taste of the meat — and on that front, fully satisfied!

Fresh domestic pork belly on a newly changed grill plate

After finishing the woo-samgyeop, they changed the grill plate and reset with pork belly! The pork belly being domestic seemed to make it melt in your mouth too haha.

Woobap set, 7,000 won: beef rice with brisket doenjang stew

Dwaeji doenjang stew filled with woo-samgyeop, mushrooms, and tofu

Wanting both stew and fried rice, I ordered the ✔️ Woobap set (beef rice + dwaeji doenjang stew) for ₩7,000. The stew was packed with woo-samgyeop, mushrooms, tofu and scallions, and the umami was insane. When you're deep into eating meat, don't you crave something hot and soupy sometimes? Totally resets the greasy taste. Bite of meat, sip of soup, back to meat...on repeat. With such a variety of meal options too, it's not just a place for meat alone — great for piling on extras and eating heartily.

Woobap fried rice served on the grill plate

The fried rice that came out on the plate smelled amazing the second it arrived 😚 The seasoning was well soaked into every grain of rice! I swear I said I was full from all the meat, but when the fried rice shows up, in it goes again — the unwritten rule haha. If you're visiting with a group, I'd recommend the woobap!

Naengmyeon, Hangang ramyeon and Jorippong ice cream for dessert

A bowl of naengmyeon at Bongu Hwarro

It didn't end there — we even had naengmyeon (cold noodles)...haha. The noodles didn't separate that well, so it was just so-so..;;..haha.

There's a ramyeon (instant noodle) machine on one side of the restaurant as part of the 20th anniversary event — one free Hangang ramyeon per person! By this point we were already full from meat, fried rice and naengmyeon haha, but if you're a big eater, you can really get your money's worth.

Jorripong ice cream served for dessert

At the very end, there's even ice cream — jorripong ice cream!!☺️💗 I'd definitely recommend today's visit, Bongu Hwarro, as a spot for a Gangnam group dinner with several people.

Is Bongu Hwarro a good Gangnam Station spot for a company dinner?

From meat to fried rice, naengmyeon and dessert, I came away from Bongu Hwarro seriously stuffed! True to a place that's been running in Gangnam for 20 years, the menu is varied and the space is large, making it a good fit for dates, family meals, company dinners and group gatherings alike. And when you're making plans in Gangnam, accessibility matters, right? You can walk here straight from Gangnam Station Exit 11, and being near CGV Gangnam made it easy to find. If you're looking for a proper meat restaurant among Gangnam Station eateries, this one's worth a visit!
