When you're out in Suwon, Ingye-dong is the place to be, right? Today, I decided it was time to treat myself and headed to Yeongpo Hwa-ro Ingye Branch (영포화로 인계점) for the first time in a while.

Visiting Yeongpo Hwa-ro Ingye Branch

They serve both hanwoo (Korean native beef) and handon (Korean pork), plus hearty lunch dishes such as yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef rice bowl) and minari galbitang (beef short-rib soup with water parsley), so it felt like a great Ingye-dong spot for either lunch or dinner. I went for the hanwoo assortment because the value and, above all, the lineup looked so solid: sirloin, salchisal, galbisal, skirt meat, upjinsal, jebi churi, and buchaesal. Getting to enjoy so many cuts of Korean beef for under ₩100,000 for two people was something I really loved about this place.

There were various set menus for up to three people, but we chose the two-person hanwoo assortment. It just seemed like the right choice for exactly two people. This was the spread of basic sides. Personally, I liked the salt and myeonginamul (pickled wild garlic leaves) best!

The salty, umami-packed doenjang sulbap (soybean-paste rice soup), plus soju and beer, came out first! Beef and somaek—a soju-and-beer mix—are always a perfect match too. It was sooo good that the drinks went down way too easily, haha.

Here is the two-person hanwoo assortment. At a glance, it looked like sirloin, jebi churi, galbisal, salchisal, skirt meat, and buchaesal. It was practically a Korean-beef all-star game. It was fun to eat it with a bit of an omakase-style feeling.

Grilling sirloin and salchisal over charcoal

The tastiest cuts, no matter what, were the sirloin and salchisal 😋 I get mixed up over whether it was skirt meat or buchaesal because I'm no expert, but it was delicious either way. As the gentle charcoal aroma soaked into the meat, its beefy flavor became even richer! I don't know whether I was just grilling well, but~ I managed to cook every piece without burning a thing. ☆☆ Huge success ☆☆

Each cut had its own details, but they all shared that wonderful quality of melting away and disappearing so quickly—great, but also a little sad. The meat itself was so good that, although I usually consider dipping sauce essential even with beef, here I ended up focusing on its pure flavor with just salt and sesame oil sauce!

It turned into a meal where I leveled up(?) haha. For the seasoned hanwoo pros, this is a good Ingye-dong spot to show off what you know; for little chicks like me, I'd recommend it as an Ingye-dong beef restaurant where you can get to know hanwoo!
