Tteokbokki for when you're feeling down

I'm feeling a bit down so I'm going to eat tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes). When you're feeling blue, spicy and sweet tteokbokki is the answer!!!! hahahaha

Where to find Hyeonseoni-ne Cheonggye Instant Branch

It's located in the building right next to the Starbucks you can see walking from Exit 3 of Euljiro-ip-gu Station (right behind the shoe repair shop!)

Hyeonseoni-ne Cheonggye Instant Branch (Euljiro-ip-gu Station) feels like it's hidden but somehow super visible haha. Once you know where it is, it's totally obvious, but if you don't, you'll walk right past it. (But isn't the character really cute?!)

Takeout instead of dining in today

Last time I ate instant tteokbokki at the restaurant, but today I'm getting takeout to eat at home with my mom!

Order at the entrance kiosk

You order at the kiosk right before entering the restaurant. There are set menus including combos, instant tteokbokki, à la carte items, and even alcohol and drinks.

There's also a big menu board inside the restaurant.

A sudden trip down memory lane with Pikachu-katsu

I don't think they had Pikachu-shaped pork cutlet or fried fish cake last time I visited, but now they do haha. I remember they used to give out fried rice cake sticks as part of a review event. Oh, but Pikachu-katsu is such a nostalgic food — I used to buy it for 500 won, and back then even just 1,000 won in my pocket felt solid enough to treat a friend too haha. Now... I can't even buy it for myself with that much money...

Chicken skewers, fried quail eggs, tteok-kkochi (grilled rice cake skewers), Pikachu-katsu... they all came with the same sauce and I remember them all being delicious. That all-purpose tteok-kkochi sauce... it was seriously so good.

There are hardly any places selling Pikachu-katsu these days, so I suddenly got all nostalgic. A quick trip down memory lane haha.

Looking around while waiting

I ordered the mild-spice combo set for takeout and looked around the restaurant while waiting. The staff member was very kind. Even though she must have been busy, she was so friendly, and I appreciated it.

The self-service bar is still here~ It looked less stocked than last time, so I guess they were busy at lunch today haha. Just a wild guess.

Weekday 1pm restaurant atmosphere

I visited a little after 1pm on a weekday, and there were quite a few customers in the restaurant? I expected it to be empty haha, but looking at the photos, the other customers somehow seem really lively. There's a certain charm to that old-school diner feel :)

The cute Hyeonseoni-ne character is asking me to leave a review haha. So cuuuute.

How fast does takeout come out?

While I was still looking around, my takeout order came out right away. On my way out, I snapped a quick photo in front of the sign as proof of pickup lol. Since the character is so cute, even the takeout bag looks cute. Hyeonseoni-ne always impresses me with how fast the food comes out haha.

I was so excited to hurry home and eat it haha.

The mild-spice combo set at home with mom

Once home, my mom and I dug into the takeout food happily haha. We were too busy eating to take photos midway. I quickly snapped some photos beforehand and then just ate — I always think afterward that I should've taken some mid-meal shots or pretty styled photos, but... I always have grand plans that never actually happen haha. By the time I came to my senses, the food was already gone.

My mom said the fish cake here was pretty good. I just thought everything was delicious hahaha. The sundae (blood sausage) and organ meat were moist with no gamey smell, and the tteokbokki was exactly old-school snack bar style — since I got the mild spice level, it was just the right amount of spicy for me.

The combo set composition felt really solid and well put together too. Nothing stood out too much on its own, but everything blended together deliciously. No matter which branch, Hyeonseoni-ne's gimbap (seaweed rice roll) is always genuinely good haha. Always delicious. Had a great meal again today.
