City Hall café for cardamom bun and vanilla lemonade: Lemangdoré

In short

Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun is a bakery café in Jung-gu, Seoul, 220m from City Hall Station Exit 4, spread across three floors. The cardamom bun impressed with its chewy crust while the vanilla lemonade had an odd flavor best approached with low expectations, and the café is a solid pick for quiet chats, light work, or picking up madeleines as a gift.

How close is Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun to City Hall Station?

A new Lemangdoré branch has opened in Gwanghwamun, following the one in Bangbae. Being close to Seoul City Hall makes it pretty accessible, and since the area was lined with nothing but franchise cafés, it's nice to finally have somewhere worth visiting..!!

Lemangdoré's coffee menu is lined up so you can choose by bean. There's decaf and non-coffee options too, so the selection is wide :)

You have to try the bakery here

And at Lemangdoré you absolutely have to try the bakery... a must-eat dessert spot👍 The variety isn't huge, but it feels like they've gathered only their best menu items :) Everything looked delicious,,, but I picked the cardamom bun, and ordered the vanilla lemonade to drink!

Dessert aside, Lemangdoré also does a lot of business in madeleine gift boxes, so it's a good spot to stop by when you need a simple gift -

1st, 2nd, or 3rd floor — where to sit?

The 1st floor has this kind of simple atmosphere — the ordering counter and a few seats nearby. If you want to work individually or have a quiet conversation, I'd recommend heading up to the 2nd or 3rd floor!

3rd floor window seats with a blue view

I wanted to check out the 3rd floor first, and going up I found the seats with the blue outdoor view I'd seen in photos. It was really quiet, perfect for spending some personal time — the vibe up there was great.

2nd floor has group seating, but outlets are a letdown

The 2nd floor mostly has group seating, so if you're coming with several people, I'd recommend the 2nd floor! On weekdays it wasn't crowded, so it was nice to sit quietly. That said, not every seat has an outlet, which makes it a bit inconvenient for long work sessions!

There seem to be relatively many seats, but the tables are packed pretty close together, haha.

Cardamom bun and vanilla lemonade, honestly

The cardamom bun I'd been looking forward to. As expected, Lemangdoré is a bakery you can trust once you taste it. The cinnamon wasn't overpowering, and the chewy crust was truly delicious ㅠ_ㅠ

Full and satisfying inside too, with all that chewy layering intact ••🫶

The vanilla lemonade did have a hint of vanilla flavor, but it was kind of an odd, hard-to-place taste,,, better not to expect too much... haha. Personally I think a plain lemonade would probably taste better.

In summary

Lemangdoré is a relatively large café spanning 1st to 3rd floors, good for chatting or working. I'd highly recommend it as a café near Gwanghwamun / City Hall :)
