Bisque and vongole pasta course with a friend at Hado, Suwon

In short

Hado is a casual dining course restaurant on Hyanggyo-ro in Haenggung-dong, Suwon. Revisiting with a friend, they had the full course: pea tartlet and sweet shrimp apple tartlet starters, bisque pasta and vongole pasta, chicken breast sous vide steak, and Earl Grey ice cream. Splitting the bisque and vongole between two people turned out to be the most satisfying way to order.

Today I enjoyed the basic course at Hado, a Haenggung-dong date restaurant, with my friend Soyeon! I'd introduced Hado on my blog once before, and the bisque pasta I had that time was so good it kept popping into my head >_<

This time, while trying to figure out where to eat something good in Haenggung-dong with Soyeon, we ended up revisiting Hado~

The steak, pasta, and dessert lineup was the same, but the starters were completely different haha. We had made a reservation ahead of time, and at that point we had to choose our pasta and steak in advance! I picked the bisque, Soyeon picked the vongole, and we both went with chicken breast steak for the main. Hado really does pasta well too — the bisque was just as delicious as I remembered, and the vongole, which I tried for the first time this visit, was totally my type too. If you're looking for a great pasta restaurant in Haenggung-dong, I really recommend this place haha.

Hado's atmosphere — quiet casual dining in Haenggung-dong

Exterior of Hado, a casual dining spot in Haenggung-dong

Hado leans more toward quiet, comfortable casual dining than a stiff fine-dining feel haha. It gives off that vibe of a secret little hideaway spot that's all your own.

Quiet, calm interior atmosphere of Hado

You might think a course meal sounds like a lot of pressure, but~~ the atmosphere was calm and relaxed!

Table and lighting inside Hado

The tables aren't cramped at all, and there are bar seats where you can watch the open kitchen, so it's great for chatting through the course wherever you sit!

Enjoying a pretty, delicious, full Western-style course meal without any of the pressure — it makes even an ordinary day feel a little special, which is why Hado comes to mind every so often haha.

Hado's basic table setting with a course guide card

Even the basic table setting is clean, and there's a card laid out explaining the course order!

On this visit, the lineup was: pea tartlet & sweet shrimp apple tartlet, pasta with chicken breast sous vide steak, and finally, Earl Grey ice cream for dessert.

Composition of Hado's basic course menu

You get to pick your pasta when you reserve, so I chose the bisque pasta I'd had last time, and Soyeon chose the vongole! Switching to sirloin sous vide steak comes with a ₩21,000 surcharge, but I kept thinking about the chicken breast sous vide steak from last time, so we both went with chicken breast steak again~~

Starters — pea tartlet, sweet shrimp apple tartlet

Last time we got a pretty salad that looked like a bouquet of flowers…! This time, two kinds of tartlets showed up instead!

Pea tartlet

Green pea tartlet starter

First, the vividly green pea tartlet had the pea's subtle sweetness and nuttiness, with both a smooth texture and whole peas still intact — two textures living well together. I found myself thinking, can peas alone really have this much depth of flavor? It was a successful first starter. The thin, crisp tartlet crust brought out the texture even more, and the flavor was clean but never bland!

It was exactly the kind of thing that wakes up your appetite before the whole course begins.

Sweet shrimp apple tartlet

Potato purée tartlet topped with sweet shrimp and apple

Personally, the sweet shrimp apple tartlet was the most impressive dish of the day for me! The plump, sweet shrimp was paired with finely diced apple, so at first a bright freshness comes through, and then right after, the soft, mild potato purée underneath eases back the overall acidity — freshness, the shrimp's savory richness, and nuttiness all came together in perfect balance!-!

How does the vongole pasta taste?

Vongole pasta packed with clams

Soyeon chose the vongole pasta. I got to try a bite, and since the broth was made from fresh clams, a subtle oceanic flavor came through along with a slight kick of spice — clean and delicious!

Even though it's an oil-based pasta, it never felt greasy, and there were plenty of plump clams, which I loved! If you're a vongole fan, this is a pasta you'd be quite satisfied with~

Reordering the bisque pasta

Bisque pasta topped with shrimp

The bisque pasta I'd been waiting and waiting for finally arrived~ I was so moved by it last time that I ordered it again, and sure enough, it was every bit as delicious as I remembered haha.

Bisque pasta with sauce clinging to the noodles

The shrimp's deep savory richness and the butter's nutty flavor clung perfectly to the noodles, and I remember thinking, this is what real pasta is supposed to taste like haha. It wasn't the drenched, heavy, greasy creamy style — there wasn't much sauce pooled on the plate, but it clung to the noodles well enough to fully bring out the flavor!

Large shrimp on top of the bisque pasta

There were big, plump shrimp on top, and eating them together with the pasta made this shrimp-lover pure happiness ❤️. Bisque can go wrong and start tasting cloying or fishy toward the end… but here, it stayed delicious all the way through.

Chicken breast sous vide steak with carrot sauce

A plate of chicken breast sous vide steak

The chicken breast sous vide steak taught me that chicken breast can actually be this moist and delicious — a mild yet warm dish haha.

Chicken breast sous vide topped with quinoa

There was none of the usual dryness of chicken breast — it was soft and moist, and with the crisp bite of quinoa on top, the two contrasting textures worked so well together ㅠㅡㅠ.

Chicken breast over orange carrot sauce

The orange carrot sauce underneath had a soft, gentle sweetness that paired well with the clean flavor of the chicken!

A bite of chicken breast with carrot sauce

Honestly I'm picky about carrots, but this sauce wasn't strongly scented and let the carrot's sweetness come through nicely, so I scraped up every last bit of the sauce.

Nearly finished plate of chicken breast steak

Overall, none of the flavors were too strong, and each ingredient's own flavor came together in harmony, so even as a main dish it never felt like too much!

The final dessert: Earl Grey ice cream

My favorite last course at Hado is the dessert — Earl Grey ice cream ◡̈

The fragrance of Earl Grey tea leaves rises up subtly, and the caramel sauce adds a sweet, slightly bitter note — that sweet-and-bitter combination makes for a truly charming dessert!-!

Wrapping up Hado's basic course

Soyeon and I revisited Hado, a Haenggung-dong restaurant, and thoroughly enjoyed the basic course.

  • A nutty tartlet that brings out the pea's varied textures
  • A starter combining sweet shrimp, apple, and potato purée
  • The rich bisque pasta that was delicious all over again
  • The vongole pasta, slightly spicy yet clean
  • Chicken breast steak that was moist with zero dryness
  • Earl Grey ice cream, the perfect way to finish

Everything was satisfying, and if two people are going, I highly recommend picking one bisque and one vongole to share between you!-! If you're looking for a great pasta restaurant in Haenggung-dong, a quiet date spot for a meal, or a Suwon course dinner that isn't too heavy, I recommend Hado's basic course…❤️
