A place to go when you want to eat beef properly, with a calm enough vibe that I'd recommend it for a date or a blind date too — this is Woosang Hwarogui Gangnam Maebong Station Branch, a beef BBQ spot near Maebong Station.

*Parking: about 5 spots available right in front of the restaurant
Parking and interior at Woosang Hwarogui, Maebong Station
Woosang Hwarogui Maebong Station Branch is easy to find — get off at Maebong Station Exit 4, walk through the alley, and you'll spot the yellow sign. Parking was right in front of the restaurant, about 5 spots, and it was so convenient haha (a BBQ place with no valet fee and instant parking is the best).
The interior was a bit darker than in photos, and it felt calm rather than lively haha. It's laid out with regular dining seats, curtained semi-rooms, and reservable private rooms — the lighting has a slight orange glow, dim and calm, so it was really great for conversation!! Kind of a space where you'd find yourself sharing deep talk without even meaning to haha. And on top of that, corkage-free. Personally I'd totally recommend it for a date or a blind date haha.
Woosang Hwarogui menu and prices

Maebong Hwarogui only serves beef, and among the options the set menus looked like great value!!
— Today's order — beef platter set, ₩41,000 (as I'll mention later... the portion was so huge we couldn't even order a rice dish... lolol)

There's also a Naver review event where you get a free ade or highball, so don't miss it haha.
Hot towels and the side dishes that come first
Before the basic side dishes even arrived, they gave us a hot towel — steaming hot, and honestly just that alone was healing ㅠㅠ Such a thoughtful owner. Just wiping my hands with the warm towel melted away the fatigue.

The side dishes that came out pair really well with beef — just looking at them, I already gave it a pass haha. Among them, the pickled celery was different, its texture and taste were a total kick while eating the beef!!
The main event: the ₩41,000 beef platter

Today's star, the beef platter. Where are chefs learning to plate like this these days ㅠㅠ It's so gorgeous, isn't it ㅠㅠ

In order there's chamjinsal, angeomisal, and gadak galbi, and a mixed vegetable platter that's great to grill alongside them comes with it too!!
How to enjoy it best!! Eat in order — chamjinsal > angeomisal > gadak galbi — and grill chamjinsal and angeomisal medium rare, gadak galbi medium well!!
01. Chamjinsal (top blade)
The first thing I tried was chamjinsal! Gorgeous from the color alone, and after grilling one piece the meat flavor was subtle and the taste was truly clean. Grilled medium rare, it wasn't too fatty or chewy, just the right softness — perfect for starting off! (No wonder the owner recommended it first haha.) One-bite shot.

Eating it together with the mixed vegetable grill, and pairing with other side dishes, was delicious too — and it was a great way to start light instead of going heavy right away, chamjinsal haha.
02. Angeomisal (inside skirt)
The second cut we tried was angeomisal! At a glance it looks a bit like sogalbisal (rib finger meat), but it has a chewier texture than chamjinsal, and the chewing experience was so good ㅠㅠ The more you chewed, the richer the meat flavor got. This was my favorite of the day, angeomisal.

You can tell from the photo alone it looks a bit like sogalbisal. Soft but with a good chew, and above all the meat was really sweet haha. One-bite shot.

With the tastier cuts, dip in just salt and wasabi to enjoy the beef's own flavor~~
03. Gadak galbi (short rib strips)
And now already the last cut ㅠㅠ My husband's favorite, gadak galbi haha. As the name suggests it's beef short rib, and it was cut to just the right thickness — how can something be this chewy and yet this tender... One-bite shot.
Hmm... I can't pick a favorite between angeomisal and gadak galbi haha. Both are my top pick... They didn't seem to be seasoned, but the meat itself was so delicious no seasoning was needed ㅠㅠ Every single cut was tender yet had a great chew, and the meat itself was sweet — we ate so well!!
Green onion salad, vegetable grill and grilled cherry tomatoes

Order the beef platter set and you also get a green onion pile stacked up like a tower!! The sauce isn't sweet-and-sour like a sesame-oil dip, it's got a slightly bitter(?) taste too, but that actually refreshes your palate while eating beef!! haha Just knock the onion tower over and eat it with the sauce.

Like this — pile the green onion on top of the beef and eat it together.
And the mixed vegetable grill that comes with the platter was so good — corn, cherry tomatoes, shishito peppers, mushrooms, and garlic came out! But seriously, the corn and cherry tomatoes were insanely good. Grilling the cherry tomatoes over the charcoal gave them a sweetness I'd never tasted before?!! I wanted to order more of just that!!!
Why the room feels so good, and the clever ice cream dessert
Unlike other beef restaurants, I kept thinking the longer we stayed, the more perfect this would be for a blind date or a date, and I think the reason is the curtains and the orange lighting!!! It's slightly dark, paired with orange lighting, and with the curtain drawn too, it's perfect for focusing only on the person across from you. Even without drinking, it was so easy to get swept up in the mood and have a deep conversation.

And then, and then... this was my first time getting a dessert like this — they don't just give you Excellent ice cream, they bring olive oil, salt, and pepper too, so you can pair it all together.
Olive oil, salt, and pepper together are already one of my favorite combos, and a beef restaurant that serves it that way..!! I was genuinely satisfied all the way to the end. The atmosphere was great, the beef was delicious, and even the dessert service was good — while I was eating, neighborhood locals came in and booked a reservation for the next day right in front of me?? lolol A true certified local favorite haha.
Is Woosang Hwarogui worth a visit?
- The soft lighting creates such a good atmosphere, you can focus calmly on conversation
- If you want to try several delicious beef cuts at once, go for the beef platter set!! (chamjinsal, angeomisal, gadak galbi)
- With the mixed vegetable grill, you can keep enjoying beef all the way through without getting tired of it
- It's a BBQ place, but the atmosphere is so good I'd highly recommend it as a blind date or date spot!!
- If you want to enjoy great beef and a comfortable atmosphere near Maebong Station together, I really, really recommend this place
