Corkage-free charcoal beef near Maebong Station and Yangjaecheon: Woosang Hwarogui

I was looking for a place to eat meat near Yangjaecheon Stream and ended up visiting Woosang Hwarogui Gangnam Maebong Station Branch. Started in Jeongja-dong, this restaurant has built up experience with quality charcoal and meat over time — they say they prepare rare cuts trimmed fresh daily and use top-grade bincotan charcoal so you can enjoy proper charcoal grilling.

Best of all, unlimited corkage-free regardless of alcohol type! If you like pairing your meat with a bit of wine or traditional liquor, a place like this is such a relief haha

What we ordered and the Korean traditional liquor lineup

Besides meat, Woosang Hwarogui Gangnam Maebong Station Branch has a pretty interesting traditional liquor lineup too — Seoul-ui Bam, Mori, Mildam, Yeoyu, Chusabaek 25, Juhyangio, Chusa 40, and other drinks you don't easily come across. It's fun to pick something new to drink while eating meat.

We ordered ✔ the assorted platter (410g) for ₩85,000 ✔ [add-on] chamjinsal (130g) for ₩34,000, done!

* All beef is from the US. For reference, chamjinsal refers to sirloin flap (salchisal), and angeomisal refers to skirt steak (toshisal). They told us the difference between the 'sang' (410g) and 'woo' (560g) sets is whether beef tongue is included.

Binchotan charcoal setup and the side dishes

The seat with the charcoal and side dishes set up! The charm of meat is really that distinctive aroma you get from grilling over charcoal, and since they use bincotan, both the heat and the fragrance from the charcoal itself were great — I could properly feel the charcoal-grilling atmosphere while cooking the meat.

What comes on the assorted platter (410g)?

The gorgeous meat arrives hahaha. This is the first place I've seen where the shredded scallions come out looking this pretty. It's an assorted menu where you can taste the rare cuts Woosang prepares all at once, so it's a great order if you want to try a variety of cuts evenly. The 'sang' set includes chamjinsal, jingalbi, and gadak-galbi, and you grill each cut over the charcoal yourself.

Chamjinsal (sirloin flap)

Being from the US actually gave it firmer texture and more bite than Korean beef, which was its own charm! The meat was also super fresh with zero gamey smell, and I was very satisfied haha

Angeomisal (skirt steak)

These cuts were a perfect match with the shredded scallions and grilled pineapple! The angeomisal was excellent too.

Gadak-galbi (rib finger meat)

My all-time favorite cut! The texture was crunchy yet tender and so delicious..♥ But it's also my mom's favorite cut, so we ended up ordering more haha

Was the 34,000 won chamjinsal add-on enough beef?

I wondered what cut 'chamjinsal' referred to, and it turns out it's the menu name for sirloin flap. I'd recommend trying various cuts from the assorted platter first, then adding an order of whichever one you liked haha. Each piece was noticeably thick and large, so the portion wasn't small at all! The color of the meat was vivid too and the quality was great.

Dessert to finish: Excellent ice cream

They give you dessert to finish the meal too! The nostalgic Excellent ice cream..+_+ I loved this so much as a kid, and to see it again here of all places!!

Yellow (French vanilla) vs. blue (vanilla). Yellow has a richer flavor and blue is lighter, and as a kid I liked yellow more hahaha

Vanilla ice cream with olive oil, salt, and pepper is a combo that never fails ★

A dessert full of thoughtful touches!! I ate it so happily.

Who should visit Woosang Hwarogui, and when

I found this place while searching for good restaurants near Maebong Station, and since it's close to Yangjaecheon Stream, it's great for a walk before or after your meal, good for having a drink alongside your meat, and since you can freely enjoy whatever liquor you bring, it's also a nice spot for gatherings with friends or a special occasion! The unlimited corkage-free policy in particular is such a big advantage, so keep it in mind if you're thinking of bringing wine or traditional liquor haha
