Paju Korean restaurant for janchi guksu and pork: Cheonje Guksu
In short
Cheonje Guksu is a Korean restaurant near Heyri Art Village in Paju, Gyeonggi. I ordered two servings of janchi guksu with two single servings of suyuk, and loved the clean anchovy broth and tender pork. Verdict: a filling, satisfying lunch stop for a Heyri outing.

I’d been craving janchi guksu (banquet noodles) so badly lately that I went looking for a nice, clean lunch spot in Paju—and ended up at Cheonje Guksu (천제국수), which has quite the word-of-mouth reputation for its janchi guksu. I enjoyed it so much that I had to share it with you!

Inside the Restaurant and the Menu

When I walked in, the restaurant was more spacious and comfortable than I’d expected. There were plenty of both floor-seating and regular tables, which felt so welcoming—I loved it.

The menu centered on noodles, including janchi guksu, bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles), kongguksu (noodles in soybean broth), and doenjang guksu (soybean-paste noodles). They also served dishes such as suyuk (boiled pork slices), perilla-oil pan-fried tofu, and wureong gangdoenjang rice. We love janchi guksu, so we ordered two servings. I’d also seen lots of reviews saying the suyuk was delicious, so we added two single servings! Honestly, I’m not usually a big suyuk person, so I hesitated—but I would have seriously regretted not ordering it!! It was so good, so please make sure you try it if you visit!
Janchi Guksu and Suyuk Together

While we waited after ordering, they set out the side dishes: refreshing kimchi, crisp cucumber peppers, and generous portions of house-made tofu.

The tofu in particular had a firm texture and lovely nutty flavor. Maybe it was because it was made in-house, but it was just so delicious!

The cucumber peppers were crisp and refreshing with a slight kick, making them perfect for waking up my appetite!

Next up was the janchi guksu! It looked like a cleaner, more refined version of the janchi guksu you commonly see. Doesn’t it look delicious?

I’d had janchi guksu made with anchovy broth before where the distinctive fishy aroma was so strong that I barely drank the broth. But Cheonje Guksu’s janchi guksu surprised me from the very first spoonful—it was much cleaner than I expected.

There was no fishy anchovy smell, but the broth was far from bland. It had a subtle savory depth, and after taking another spoonful or two, I found myself thoroughly enjoying it with the noodles! Top it with the kimchi served as a side, and that’s it—absolutely perfect! I think this will be the only place I think of when I’m craving janchi guksu now.

The suyuk we ordered alongside it also exceeded my expectations. Since it was a single serving, it was just the right amount to eat with noodles, and it was honestly so, so good—hard to believe it came from a noodle restaurant.

Most of all, the meat was incredibly tender with no unpleasant smell at all. It went so well with the seasoned chives served alongside it that I just kept eating! And of course, it paired wonderfully with the noodles too.

Adding the suyuk made the meal much more substantial than noodles alone. It was so delicious that I think I’ll find myself thinking about it whenever I visit Heyri Art Village!
Lunch for a Heyri Outing
The janchi guksu I had that day stood out for its clean broth without any fishy anchovy smell and its deep savory flavor. Paired with the tender, odor-free suyuk, it made for such a perfect meal. If you’re looking for lunch in Paju or an easygoing Korean restaurant near Heyri, I’d definitely recommend ordering the janchi guksu and suyuk together at Cheonje Guksu!
