On a date in Mangwon, I stopped by the Japanese restaurant Padong and had a really delicious meal! From a hearty futomaki (seaweed rice roll) to refreshing soba, I got to enjoy such a variety of dishes that I left completely satisfied. I spent the whole time happy, eating a thoughtfully prepared meal in such an atmospheric space haha.
Where is Padong, and what are parking and the interior like?

Padong, a Japanese restaurant favorite in Mangwon, is about a 5-minute walk from Exit 2 of Mangwon Station, so it was easy to find. There's no dedicated parking, so if you're driving, you'll need to use a nearby public parking lot.

Walking in, a warm, cozy wood-tone atmosphere greeted me — a great fit for a date or a small gathering. The space has an open kitchen, so you can clearly see the cooking process, which gave me real confidence in the hygiene side of things.

Even the wait for the food, soaking in the mood under the comfortable lighting, was enjoyable — a real Japanese-food gem in Mangwon haha.
Padong's signature futomaki: what goes inside the roll?

Looking over Padong's menu, I found a range of unique Japanese dishes like kimchi cheese nabe, mazesoba, and basil soba.

Among the many options, I didn't hesitate to order the signature dish first — futomaki!

Packed with tuna, fried shrimp, shiso leaf, fried tofu, burdock root, gourd strips, cucumber, and rolled omelet, the visual alone was overwhelming.
Taking a big bite, the varied textures of the ingredients came together so freshly it was honestly impressive. The fragrant shiso leaf really balanced out the futomaki, and it was delicious haha. The rich harmony of ingredients made it feel like the perfect pick for a Japanese-food favorite in Mangwon haha.
Padong's steak rice bowl: flat-iron steak mixed with egg yolk

Next, for a hearty meal to fill me up, I tried the steak rice bowl, piled generously with meat. It came topped with skirt steak and a mountain of vegetable garnish, finished with a special sauce that really raised my expectations!
Breaking the yolk and gently mixing it in, the skirt steak turned moist and tender with every bite — it put me in such a good mood haha. The sweet and savory special sauce coated every grain of rice, making this a satisfying main dish all the way to the last bite — a real Japanese-food favorite in Mangwon.
Seasonal cold soba at Padong: icy broth with fried shrimp

Craving something cold to chase away the heat, I added the cold soba that's currently on the seasonal menu. It came with crispy fried shrimp, radish, and wasabi neatly arranged alongside — just looking at it felt refreshing! There were cherry tomatoes in the cold soba too, and eating them near the end of the meal made my mouth feel clean and refreshed haha.
Slurping the chewy buckwheat noodles together with the cold, rich broth full of shaved ice felt incredibly refreshing! The savory fried shrimp paired beautifully with the broth, rounding out this delicacy at a Japanese-food favorite in Mangwon haha. Dipping the fried shrimp fully into the broth and biting in, the crunch paired with the burst of cold soba broth was just so delicious!
How was the ebi fry side at Padong?

Having enjoyed the fried shrimp in the cold soba so much, I added ebi fry (fried shrimp) as a side, and it was just as satisfying. The golden-fried shrimp had a crispy coating packed with plump, springy shrimp meat!

The side-order ebi fry came with a fresh, crunchy cabbage salad, so I could enjoy it cleanly and savory all the way through without any greasiness! Padong felt like a Japanese restaurant favorite in Mangwon where careful attention showed in everything, from the mains to the sides — it was perfect.
Is Padong worth it for a Mangwon date night?
Thanks to the neat, carefully plated dishes at this Japanese favorite in Mangwon, Padong, I finished the meal feeling completely satisfied and happy haha. If you'd like to enjoy hearty, thoughtfully made futomaki and rice bowls at a Japanese restaurant with great vibes in Mangwon, a visit to Padong will not disappoint!
