On a day when I was craving delicious meat, I visited Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal in Jayang-dong, a local favorite known by word of mouth for its chewy texture and rich, savory juices.

At Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal, you can enjoy pot-lid-grilled pork belly and a wide range of wrap vegetables in Jayang-dong. I fell completely for the pork jowl, which was even better than expected, as well as the combination of fresh wraps and pot-lid grilling, so here is my honest review.
Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal: Location and Directions

The address is 55 Jayang-ro, Building 102, Unit 103, Jayang Haneulchae Ber Apartment, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. It is on the first floor of the apartment complex’s shopping area near the northern end of Jamsil Bridge intersection in Jayang-dong. It is about 676 m from Guui Station, or roughly a 10-minute walk from Exit 4.

From Exit 4 of Guui Station, head toward Jayang-dong. It is relatively easy to find if you look for the northern end of Jamsil Bridge intersection and Jayang Haneulchae Ber Apartment; the restaurant is on the first floor of the Building 102 shopping area.

Atmosphere and First Impressions
The moment I stepped inside, I was welcomed by a neat, pleasant space.

Each table is set with a large cast-iron pot lid, giving it the feel of a proper grilling spot.

With generous spacing between tables and a tidy atmosphere, it would work just as well for a group gathering, family meal, or company dinner.

Generous Wrap Vegetables and Neat Side Dishes
One of this place’s biggest draws is its fresh wrap vegetables. Along with lettuce and perilla leaves, there is a varied, fresh selection of ssam (leaf wraps), making it especially fun to eat with the meat.

The complimentary kimchi, seasoned bean sprouts, and scallion salad are all seasoned just right. Grill them alongside the meat on the pot lid, and their savory flavor comes through even more.

The Standout: Wrap Vegetables
The most noticeable feature here is the variety of wrap vegetables and accompaniments.

More than 10 kinds of wrap vegetables are prepared, and you can pick up extra vegetables and side dishes as needed at the self-service station.

Thick pork belly is grilled until golden on the pot lid, then wrapped with fresh leaves, meat, kimchi, and more. It is a great fit for anyone who wants to enjoy pork belly generously with ssam.

Pork Jowl, Pork Belly, and Emperor Beef Ribs Together
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the pork jowl.
The more I ate, the more its rich juices burst through, and its distinctive chewy texture was excellent.

The high heat of the pot lid made it crisp on the outside and moist inside; I could not help but exclaim after the first bite.

The pork belly, browned beautifully on the pot lid, was pure nutty goodness. The Emperor beef ribs, well coated in a sweet-salty marinade, also had a soft texture that anyone would enjoy.

Place a piece of browned pork jowl on a fresh wrap leaf with grilled kimchi, garlic, and ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), then take a big bite—the mouthful is packed with flavor.

Fried Rice and Soybean Paste Stew to Finish
After finishing the meat, fried rice cooked on the pot lid and the spicy, deeply savory doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) are musts.

The nutty flavor of fried rice that gets slightly crisped against the pot lid gives the meat meal a clean finish.
