Gwangjin Korean BBQ for frozen pork belly and pork skin: Ssamchae
In short
Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Gwangjin, Seoul, known for cooking pork on a large pot-lid griddle. On a fourth visit, I tried frozen pork belly, reordered my favorite pork skin, and finished with self-serve vegetables and fried rice. Verdict: an easygoing repeat stop for chewy pork skin and affordable drinks.

Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal—definitely worth another, and another, visit!!!

I wrote about this place once before, but I went again this time. Actually, this was already my fourth visit hahaha. I liked it so much after trying it once that I go whenever it comes to mind—our neighborhood favorite!!!
It’s Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal. Once again, I had such a delicious meal.

A spotless Korean BBQ restaurant at Jayang Haneulchae Ver shopping complex
It is located in the Jayang Haneulchae Ver shopping complex, and since it has not been open very long, it is spotless. Plus, the staff are so kind^^ They get everything set up nice and quickly, so I always leave feeling happy after a meal here.

Above all, the prices here are easy on the wallet, so you can comfortably enjoy both meat and drinks.
Draft beer is ₩1,900!!! Soju and bottled beer are ₩2,900 too!!! That makes having a drink with your meat feel pretty affordable, right??! They also have a lunch special of minari (water parsley) shabu-kalguksu (hot-pot noodle soup) plus fried rice.

The staff are speedy~~~ As soon as we sat down, everything was set up in a flash!!!

Unlimited self-serve vegetables and a glass of draft beer
One great thing about Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal is that its self-serve bar is seriously well stocked. From all kinds of wrap vegetables to side vegetables, you can have unlimited refills~~ 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 When you are eating meat, the greens and side vegetables disappear quickly, so it was nice to be able to grab more whenever I wanted. They even had mushrooms and kabocha squash—loved that!

As soon as we sat down, we got a glass of draft beer~~ After a refreshing sip, it was time to properly dig into the meat.

First-time frozen pork belly and my favorite pork skin
This time, we ordered frozen pork belly and pork skin. It was my first time ordering the frozen pork belly here, while the pork skin is my absolute favorite that I order every visit~~

They put the meat on the pot-lid griddle and add vegetables that you can grill alongside it. There are so many kinds—bean sprouts, bracken fern, napa cabbage kimchi, green onion kimchi, mushrooms, garlic, and more—and the griddle is huge, haha. It really feels like a proper feast.

My husband is a frozen pork belly lover, and he could not stop raving about this one~~!! I usually prefer thick-cut pork belly, but I really enjoyed the frozen pork belly here too~~~ It was not too thin, so it still had a nice meaty flavor and was great wrapped in greens.

You have to order the pork skin
But my favorite is the pork skin~~ If you come to Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal, please make sure to order it. It is affordable and seriously delicious!!!!

It is wonderfully chewy and nutty, and there is soybean powder at the self-serve bar too. Dip it in and you really get that perfect texture and nutty flavor. I honestly highly recommend it!!!

Jjapagetti and pot-lid fried rice for dessert
After properly enjoying the meat, it is dessert time~~??! My husband chose Jjapagetti (instant black bean noodles), and for me, it was fried rice without question!
I said I would only eat fried rice, but then I saw this visual and ended up picking up my chopsticks hahaha. My stomach felt like it was about to burst, but I still ate the fried rice after that… What an impressive stomach I have hahaha.

I simply could not pass up fried rice cooked on the pot-lid griddle, so I nearly burst my stomach one more time, hehe.
If you are looking for an affordable Korean BBQ restaurant in Jayang-dong, or a great pot-lid pork belly spot, I recommend Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal—the kind of place you visit once, keep thinking about, and become a regular at, just like us.
