Where is Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang near Saetgang Station?

Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Yeouido is a grilled fish Korean restaurant 400m from Saetgang Station Exit 2, on the basement floor of the Lotte Castle Ivy building. It's open Mon–Sun 11:00–21:00, with a break time from 15:00–17:00 and last order at 20:20. Takeout is available, high chairs are provided, and parking is free.

You know those days when you've just gotten off work and part of you wants spicy rice cakes or chicken, but another part just wants a proper, healthy meal? A home-cooked-meal kind of day. I found a grilled fish restaurant where you can go get a generous, satisfying meal exactly on days like that.

Inside the restaurant: tidier than a typical baekban spot

Usually when you think 'Korean home-style restaurant,' you picture that old-school, nostalgic kind of place, right? But this place was surprisingly different — super clean. You could tell it hadn't been open long. It gave me even more confidence in the hygiene side of things too.

Clean, right? I went for an early dinner solo this time, but I noticed a lot of families coming in too. There are dedicated solo seats, so it's a great spot for Yeouido office workers for both lunch and dinner!

This is the solo seating area. I had a nice solo meal in this clean space. If you come with two people, there are set menus prepared too.

What comes with the 13,500 won grilled mackerel set?

What I ordered that day was the grilled mackerel set (₩13,500). Honestly, I went there specifically craving mackerel. And doesn't it look amazing for the price!! A whole hearty mackerel, siraegi (dried radish greens) soup, various side dishes, and wraps — this place had really solid value for money.

Do you know the Bibigo grilled mackerel they sell when you're craving fish but can't be bothered? I think anyone living alone has probably had it at some point. This was, obviously, on a completely different level — a delicious home-cooked meal. ♥

Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside — a perfectly grilled mackerel, served whole like this... ㅠㅠ

The side dishes that came with it also gave off exactly that 'eating a healthy meal at home' feeling. No MSG, healthy home-cooked vibes!!

Wrapping the mackerel in vegetables made me feel like I was really taking care of myself with a healthy meal. To everyone living alone and ordering delivery every day — let's make sure to come here and treat ourselves to a proper Korean meal at least once in a while, haha.

The free self bar: sungnyung, tteokbokki and lettuce refills

And here's something I really loved about Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang!! There's an unlimited-refill self bar. It's not just extra side dishes — they've got sungnyung (scorched rice water), tteokbokki, rice, and lettuce all generously stocked.

I was too full to try the tteokbokki, but scooping a bowl of sungnyung before the meal really got my appetite going — good bb. I also had as much japchae as I wanted, which is one of those dishes you can't really get well made anywhere except a proper Korean restaurant, haha.

Here's the country-of-origin info: mackerel is from Norway, Spanish mackerel is domestic, hairtail is domestic, and so on.

Worth a return visit with family

Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang is somewhere I definitely want to come back to properly enjoy with family next time. Then I'd like to try the gorgonzola pizza too, and have a meal with one of the other sets. They've even got jeyuk, the ultimate soul food for guys, haha.
