Yeouido IFC Mall after-work tteokbokki with Coolpis: Hyeonseonine
In short
Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch is a 20-year-old Korean snack restaurant on level B2 of IFC Mall in Yeouido, Seoul, inside the underground passage of shops. After work the writer met her husband here and ordered the Hyeonseoni Set for 23,000 won in the spicy level — tteokbokki, mixed fried snacks, sundae and gimbap — though the gimbap had sold out and came as rice balls instead. The spicy tteokbokki at Hyeonseonine is only a little hotter than Shin Ramyun, so it went down easily with a cup of Coolpis.

Where is Hyeonseonine in the Yeouido IFC Mall underground passage?
Today I want to introduce Hyeonseonine tteokbokki, one of the well-known spots in the Yeouido The Hyundai/IFC area. My husband and I met up in Yeouido after work and decided to grab a simple dinner before heading home.

This is one of those already-famous franchises! Hyeonseonine tteokbokki. I'd only ever eaten at the original branch before, so this was my first time visiting the Yeouido location. It's located in the underground passage shops of The Hyundai and IFC. There are chairs inside the shop and also tables and chairs outside. Apparently at lunchtime there's always a line! We came in the evening so it was relatively quiet.

Here's the inside of the shop~!

Hyeonseonine's menu and self-serve bar
There's an à la carte menu and a set menu. The à la carte menu includes tteokbokki, sundae (Korean blood sausage), mini gimbap, mixed fried snacks, eomuk (fish cake), tuna mayo rice bowl, chicken mayo rice bowl, ramyeon, spicy ramyeon, and cheese ramyeon. There are about 5 set menus. And there's also an instant menu!! Just think of it as instant tteokbokki you cook at your table~!

Whoa, Hyeonseonine tteokbokki has 20 years of history!!! No wonder it's kept its reputation going this long.

Bowls, pickled radish, sauces and so on are available self-serve at the bar.

Is the 23,000-won Hyeonseoni Set enough for two?
We ordered the Hyeonseoni Set! It's made up of tteokbokki + fried snacks + sundae + gimbap for 23,000 won. When it actually came out, the portion was way bigger than I expected!!

How spicy is Hyeonseonine's spicy tteokbokki?
Let's go through each item one by one!! First, the tteokbokki! You can choose the spicy option. We went with spicy. Just so you know, it's only a bit spicier than Shin Ramyun. If you can't handle spicy food well, order the medium spice instead.

Mixed fried snacks and a free cup of fish cake broth
Next up, the fried snacks, plus a free bowl of fish cake broth. The fried snacks were also more generous than I expected. I thought maybe 1-2 pieces would come with a set, but instead there were all kinds of fried snacks — mandu, squid, vegetables, sweet potato...!!! Good good good!!!

Gimbap sold out: rice balls instead
The last item is the rice balls. It was originally supposed to be gimbap (seaweed rice roll), but they'd sold out that day so it came as rice balls instead!!! Since I actually prefer rice balls, I was happier with this~!! haha

Sundae sliced to order at Hyeonseonine
And finally, sundae (Korean blood sausage)! It's the classic snack-restaurant style sundae, but it was warm, chewy, and really tasty? They slice it fresh and serve it right after you order!!!

We dipped the sundae in the tteokbokki sauce, and dipped the fried snacks in it too~!!! The tteokbokki sauce is really delicious!! I think it'd be great if they sold it separately so we could make Hyeonseonine tteokbokki at home!

Coolpis, the drink that cools the spice
My throat was a bit dry so I ordered a Cool Piss soda for the first time in a while~!!haha Snack food really does call for Cool Piss!! And it helps tame the spice too!!!!!!

They're also running a review event!! Leave a review and you get fried tteokbokki-rice-cake and savory mayo rice balls~!! I hope everyone joins the event and grabs the perk~!!
Same taste as the main branch — instant tteokbokki next time
Hyeonseonine tteokbokki, easy to grab a quick bite, and the Yeouido branch tasted exactly the same as the original branch. As always, it was so, so good~!!! Great for Yeouido office workers to grab a simple lunch, or to try the instant tteokbokki!! Or if you want something quick on your way home from work, stopping by the underground shopping area before heading home works great too~!!!! Next time I visit, I want to try the instant tteokbokki on my way home from work!! The sauce base is so tasty that I bet the instant version will be amazing too, and I plan to add all sorts of extra ingredients (sari) and try more~!!haha
