Located in the Yeonsu-dong food alley, Yeonsu Gopchang Yeonsu Main Branch is a popular spot that's always packed with customers in the evenings! It's already built up quite a reputation, especially among gopchang lovers, so I went in with high expectations. They age everything for 24 hours daily for the best taste, and to keep things clean, they regularly close on the last Sunday of every month.

What is the restaurant like inside?

The first thing I noticed walking into Yeonsu Gopchang Yeonsu Main Branch was how clean it felt. It didn't have that typical greasy, smelly gopchang-restaurant vibe — it was relatively fresh and pleasant, which made a great first impression. The tables had a comfortable amount of space between them, and the staff were friendly, so I started off in a good mood.

Having a restroom indoors was really convenient too. I sat down at an empty table. I think the fact that they're always so friendly no matter when you visit is what I like best.

I was so happy that Yeonsu Gopchang Yeonsu Main Branch also serves mul-tteok, one of my favorites~ Soft and chewy — I've loved rice cakes since I was little, so I ate this up happily.

After the gopchang, the fried rice is a must~ Fried rice cooked in the leftover oil is truly essential. It's got that savory + salty combo, so you have to eat it even if you're already full. The basic side dishes were served nicely and cleanly too, and the sauce combo you eat with the gopchang was so good I kept going back for more without ever getting tired of it~

I ended up so full and had such a delicious meal. If you run out of side dishes, you can just use the self-serve corner.

Gopchang taste, prices and final verdict

These days there are so many gopchang restaurants around that it's hard to decide where to go, but I think Yeonsu Gopchang is a place that nails the basics while still delivering solid, satisfying flavor. What impressed me most was the condition of the gopchang. Cleaned with no gamey smell at all, it felt great from the very first bite, and the savory flavor built up the more I chewed — it reminded me all over again why people seek out good gopchang restaurants. The texture was excellent too, crispy outside and still chewy inside, and it wasn't overly greasy, so I could keep eating without feeling weighed down.

The prices are also reasonable considering how expensive everything is these days, so it felt like good value too. The portions weren't small either, so even an average order left me plenty full. I'd go back, and I recommend it.
