Dog-friendly Hanam Misa restaurant for two rice soups: O Hyeongje

In short

O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch is a stone-pot nurungjitang (scorched rice soup) Chinese restaurant on Misa-daero in Hanam, Gyeonggi, with free parking and dogs welcome inside. Visiting at 2pm on a Sunday with her partner and her dog Ppobbo, the writer was seated with no wait and shared two bowls — seafood nurungjitang at 18,000 won and maesaengi abalone nurungjitang at 22,000 won, 40,000 won in total. The broth at O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang is gentle rather than punchy but clearly savory, making it an easy choice for a meal with parents too.

Hi, this is Monkey Ppobbo :) With the seasons changing, the temperature swings are getting bigger and mornings and evenings are chilly. It's the kind of season where I keep craving warm soup dishes. I'm a big seafood lover, so the moment I saw the menu name, my eyes lit up. My partner, Ppobbo, and I went to O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang (오형제황제누룽지탕), a great spot for a family gathering in Hanam Misa. Let me introduce it right away 😊

Pretty lights hung out front and the place was huge, so I walked in feeling excited.

Free parking lot with generous lines

The parking lot was spacious with generously drawn lines, so parking was easy. In my book, easy parking is everything!

Spacious, clean restaurant interior

Maybe because it's newly opened, the inside was spacious, clean, and pleasant!

Dining hall seats with wide table spacing

Is there a wait at 2pm on a Sunday?

We went at an off-peak Sunday time around 2pm and got seated right away with no wait. The seats had plenty of room and the tables were spaced generously, so we sat comfortably. It seemed like a good spot for family gatherings too—no pressure taking older parents there!

What side dishes are at the self-serve bar?

The basic side dishes at O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang came out in brassware, each one neatly arranged. There's a nice variety—salad, green onion muchim, dongchimi (radish water kimchi), baek-kimchi (white kimchi), dried radish strips, and more :)

There's a separate self-serve bar where you can grab water and any side dishes you need, with refills available, so I topped up whatever was running low!

Sign for takeout discount and kimchi for sale

There were also signs for a takeout discount and kimchi for sale. They seem to sell green onion kimchi, baek-kimchi, and dried radish strips separately. Looked like a lot of people use it for takeout too.

What we ordered and what it cost

A Hanam Misa restaurant spread of nurungjitang

We ordered two dishes: seafood nurungjitang and maesaengi (fine seaweed) abalone nurungjitang. Seafood nurungjitang was ₩18,000 and maesaengi abalone nurungjitang was ₩22,000, for ₩40,000 total. The visuals were seriously impressive?! Next time I'd love to order tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) alongside.

How the maesaengi abalone nurungjitang tastes

With the maesaengi abalone nurungjitang, the staff poured the scorched rice into a piping-hot stone pot right in front of us, which totally built the anticipation! You can see it's packed with seafood, right?!

The broth wasn't harsh at all—mildly savory in a gentle way, and I kept spooning more. The maesaengi side had abalone in it too, so the aroma really came through and it felt much richer.

Green-hued broth of the maesaengi abalone nurungjitang

The umami hit hard, and I kept going back for one more spoonful. With the maesaengi in it, the broth had a deep green color. Inside the bowl there was shrimp, broccoli, squid, mushrooms, and tomato all evenly distributed, so the portion was generous.

A spoonful of nurungjitang lifted up

Scooping up a full spoonful and taking a bite warmed me up inside and made me happy. I did wonder if the price was a bit high, but with that much seafood packed in, it felt worth it.

Seafood nurungjitang: what's in it and how big is the bowl?

The ₩18,000 seafood nurungjitang had big chunks of scallop and squid, which made for good chewy bites. There was plenty of bok choy and shiitake mushroom too, so the ingredients felt substantial.

It wasn't spicy at all, on the mild side, but the umami still came through clearly—I think it would win over older palates. Glad we ordered both :)

Bowl of nurungjitang shared between two people

The portion was big enough that it might be tough for a woman alone, but sharing it with my partner, we ate our fill happily. Eating it, I suddenly found myself thinking of my parents!

Green onion muchim served alongside nurungjitang

The green onion muchim pairing was great too.

A spoonful topped with dried radish strips and dongchimi

It's also tasty topped with dried radish strips and dongchimi.

Naver event notice posted in the restaurant

Oh, and there's also a Naver event going on, so take note!

A refreshing glass of lemonade

The lemonade was refreshing—totally recommend it.

Is O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang worth a visit with your dog?

  • Not harsh at all, but the umami is unmistakable
  • Loaded generously with seafood
  • The brassware basic side dishes are neat too
  • Plenty of parking space
  • Roomy enough to work well for family gatherings
