In short

Sammi-jip is a pot-lid kimchi pork belly restaurant on Cheonglacaneol-ro 233beon-gil, near Cheongna Lake Park in Seohae, Incheon. On a weekday lunch visit, the order was a half portion of Sammi kimchi pork belly with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), plus unlimited lettuce, perilla leaves, radish wraps and pickles from the self-serve bar while a staff member grilled the kimchi and pork at the table. With cheesy kimchi fried rice to finish, Sammi-jip makes a filling meal after a walk around the lake.

Parking and first impressions at Sammi-jip

Parking for this Cheongna Lake Park favorite is right in front, but spots are limited, so just let the owner know and park there — they'll help you pull out later. Pork and kimchi are a dream combo, and knowing the kimchi is domestically made by a kimchi artisan had me even more excited.

Parking space in front of Sammi-jip

The interior was clean and pleasant. The tables weren't cramped together, so it was comfortable to eat. True to its reputation as a Cheongna Lake Park favorite, the place was packed even on a weekday lunch.

The water served was clean bottled water too. You can ask for more if you need it.

What's on the self-serve bar: unlimited veggies and side dishes

At Sammi-jip's self-serve bar, you can grab any extra side dishes you need, and the bar itself was kept really clean. You could tell the owner cares a lot about hygiene.

Vegetables and wraps are unlimited at the self-serve bar. Lettuce, perilla leaves, peppers, radish pickle, and pickled sides — refill as much as you want, which is a huge win for veggie lovers.

What we ordered and the 11,000-won lunch special

We ordered the main dish, a half portion of Sammi kimchi pork belly, plus doenjang jjigae. You can also choose pork jowl, pork neck, or regular pork belly.

There's a wide range of stew lunch specials and solo lunch specials, so it seems like a great spot for solo dining in Cheongna too. The lunch special comes with rice included, so you can have a full meal for ₩11,000 — quite the deal for a Cheongna Lake Park favorite.

There's also a variety of side dishes you can order to your liking.

The table setting and the doenjang jjigae

The basic spread includes dongchimi (watery radish kimchi), wraps, and sauce. Any extra sides you need can be grabbed from the self-serve bar.

They give you minari (water dropwort), seasoned green onion salad, and seasoned bean sprouts as basics — and these get grilled together with the kimchi and pork too. Tangy, sweet, and spicy, it's an unbeatable combo with the meat.

You can also grill king oyster mushrooms and onions alongside the meat. Tuck them between the pork slices and they turn sweet and delicious — a nice bonus.

The doenjang jjigae that comes standard has big chunks of tofu in it. Savory and mellow, it went perfectly with rice.

Pre-grilled pork belly and kimchi cooked on a pot lid by the staff

At Sammi-jip, they place pre-seared pork belly around the edge of the grill, so since it's already partially cooked, you can dig in quickly.

Since it's domestic kimchi, it isn't too salty, and with staff grilling everything for you, this is a Cheongna Lake Park favorite even beginners can enjoy without any mishaps.

Because it's a pot lid that collects oil, you can even fry the kimchi right on it — the pot-lid pork belly at Sammi-jip, a Cheongna Lake Park favorite.

The pork comes pre-seared and the staff grill the kimchi for you too, so you can just relax and eat haha

Isn't this basically frying the kimchi at this point..? You know grilled kimchi with pork belly is ridiculously good, right ㅜ

Pork belly, kimchi, bean sprouts, green onion, and minari all spread across the grill. A whole spread of kimchi pork belly that gets your mouth watering just looking at it.

Top a well-grilled slice of pork belly with the seasoned bean sprouts and the crunchy sprouts meet the savory meat — so good..

Dip a piece of pork belly into the garlic soy sauce topped with cheongyang chili — yum. Chewy meat with salty sauce is a dream combo.

Finishing with cheesy kimchi fried rice

You have to finish with fried rice, of course. The kimchi fried rice, sprinkled with seaweed flakes, had that perfect smoky wok flavor — so good.

Top it with cheese and let it sizzle for the perfect finish. Stretchy mozzarella with kimchi fried rice never disappoints.

A great place to fill up after a walk around Cheongna Lake Park — if you're looking for a Korean BBQ spot in Cheongna, I highly recommend Sammi-jip 🤍
