Gajeong-dong meat house: 500g pork belly dinner at Euljiro Yeontan

Hi, this is Alcheon. On a lovely Sunday, my family took a trip to Yeongjongdo Seaside Park. On the way home, we decided on pork belly for dinner since my son loves it, and I remembered enjoying a great meal at a pork restaurant in Gajeong-dong before — so we went back to Euljiro Yeontan Gui.

Lettuce, perilla leaves, pineapple, pickled radish, chili peppers, onions, garlic, seasoned bean sprouts, kimchi, pickled onions, ssamjang (dipping sauce), wasabi, sesame oil, salted anchovy paste, and soybean powder — with so many sides and sauces, it was fun to dig in.

The pork belly arrived shortly after, sprinkled with coarse salt.

The thick pork belly looked fresh, and I started getting excited just thinking about grilling it over charcoal.

Next came the rib meat. Since we planned to grill and eat the pork belly first and save the rib meat for later, we set it aside for the moment.

With the pork belly, rib meat, and all sorts of side dishes filling the table, we started by putting the pork belly on the grill first.

They also gave us pineapple, which is even tastier grilled alongside the meat and mushrooms.

We cut the pork belly into bite-sized pieces and grilled it a bit more until golden brown.

After the wait, it was finally time to eat! We started our meal properly at Euljiro Yeontan Gui. To taste the meat itself, I first dipped a piece lightly in oil-and-salt sauce — the thick, savory pork belly had a great chew, and it was even better paired with tangy dressed lettuce salad and sweet pineapple.

We also enjoyed lettuce wraps with pickles, garlic, bean sprouts, kimchi, and other fillings on lettuce and perilla leaves. With so many side dishes, we didn't even need rice in the wrap to feel full and satisfied.

Round two: 300g of rib meat

After finishing the pork belly, we swapped the grill plate and started grilling the rib meat.

Since beef cooks faster than pork, grilling it was even easier than before.

The glossy rib meat had a wonderfully chewy texture, and being completely free of any odor, it was delicious even on its own.

We also enjoyed the rib meat in lettuce wraps, though we kept them a bit simpler and lighter than the pork belly wraps.

The whole family enjoyed a delicious dinner of pork belly and rib meat together. After the satisfying meal, I snapped a photo of my son looking content.
