Gangnam Chinese restaurant with menbosha: Jjamppong Jijon

In short

Jjamppong Jijon Yeoksam Branch is a Chinese restaurant near Yeoksam Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Two diners ordered jjamjjamyeon, tangsuyuk, and menbosha, enjoying the standard-level spicy jjamppong, crisp pork, and non-greasy shrimp toast. Verdict: a place I’d happily revisit for lunch near Yeoksam Station.

When I want jjamppong and sides near Yeoksam Station

I visited Jjamppong Jijon Yeoksam Branch (짬뽕지존 역삼점) near Yeoksam Stationღ It’s such a famous chain, so I was happy to find a branch in Yeoksam too ʚ🧸ྀིɞ

The restaurant is on the second floor, and it even has separate private rooms! It’s such a perfect place for company dinners, so I feel like office workers must stop by often for all sorts of occasions*。٩(* ॑ᗜ ॑* )و*。

The interior was clean, and what really hit my taste was the chilled citron tea and plum tea ready to enjoy!ღ They’re great for freshening up after a meal, and their tanginess also whetted my appetite during it >< You all know how one little detail like this can quietly make the difference when choosing a restaurant, right?

I wanted to try every flavor, so we ordered jjamppong, jjajangmyeon, tangsuyuk, and menbosha! And wow, that was such a good choice.. True to its name, the jjamppong was wonderfully spicy and refreshing, while the jjajangmyeon was so good I wanted to order rice and stir-fry it with the sauceㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ And the tangsuyuk was crisp and delicious too, so I even photographed the cross-section.. Honestly, if menbosha comes out soaked in oil, I can’t eat it because of that particular heavy feeling, you know?? There was none of that here. One bite and I thought, if even the sides are this good, that says it all (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

Even while writing this post, I want to eat it againㅠㅠㅠㅠ

There’s terrace seating outside like this too, so I think it would be so lovely to eat outdoors in autumn ( ु ´͈ ᵕ `͈ )ु

But of course, the indoor space can’t be lacking either, right? From sofa seats to chairs, every spot is set up so you can chat and eat comfortably! *(*ᵒ̴̶̷͈̀ ᗜ ᵒ̴̶̷͈́)و ̑̑ You can see straight into the kitchen too, and it’s a place armed with cleanliness and tidiness ˳♡જ⁀➴

Jjamjjamyeon was such a welcome option for two

The long-awaited jjajangmyeon and jjamppong⸜(⌯'▾'⌯)⸜ I wanted one dish each, but since there were only two of us, we got jjamjjamyeon, a half-and-half bowl of jjajangmyeon and jjamppong! Restaurants like this surprisingly often don’t have half-and-half options, so when there are two of you, it can be disappointing because you can’t order tangsuyuk or sides. This kind of half-and-half menu was such a welcome sight :)

You can choose the spice level for the jjamppong, but I’m terrible with spicy food, so I chose the standard level,,,ღ Maximum hearty spice, so deliciousㅠㅠ I really think you should order a restaurant’s signature dish when choosing what to eat‧⁺◟( ᵒ̴̶̷̥́ ·̫ ᵒ̴̶̷̣̥̀ )

The jjajangmyeon had a gentle smoky wok flavor too, and honestly, I wanted to add a bowl of rice and eat even more... Next time, I want to go with four people and order lots of different things.

Tangsuyuk with the perfect crispness and tenderness

Honestly, my favorite Chinese dish is !TANG!SU!YUK!—sweet-and-sour fried pork—(⁎छ˼̲̮छ) That also makes it the dish I judge most strictly. First, it has to be crisp as a given; the meat must be tender too, and it matters whether the sauce wraps around that crispness well*

The reason I even included a cross-section photo is so you could see how generously filled with meat it was >< It wasn’t quite the !CRUNCH! of guobaorou, but it had the classic crispness you want from tangsuyuk, and the meat was so tender that it passed (ू•‧̫•ू⑅) Since it’s a chain, they probably use the same sauce, but to my taste, Jjamppong Jijon’s tangsuyuk sauce was the best too!꒰ › ̫ ‹ ꒱

Menbosha packed up without that oily sogginess

And then there’s menbosha, fried shrimp toast—the side dish people seem to have the most divided opinions on⁺◟( ᵒ̴̶̷̥́ ·̫ ᵒ̴̶̷̣̥̀ ) I like menbosha too, but sometimes it comes out far too soggy with oilㅜ Then I can only eat a few pieces and leave feeling disappointed.. But here, I packed some up to take home hahaha, after ordering extra ><

No signature oily sogginess! Plump shrimp! In a way, these should be a given, but it’s hard to get those basics right*(*ᵒ̴̶̷͈̀ ᗜ ᵒ̴̶̷͈́)و ̑̑ Jjamppong Jijon Yeoksam Branch passes~

The self-service bar and after-meal drinks

Here’s the self-service bar~! It’s thoughtfully stocked with all sorts of things, from onions to children’s spoons (◍ᐡ₃ᐡ◍) You’ll see when you visit Jjamppong Jijon Yeoksam Branch, but the cleanliness is genuinely excellent—there wasn’t a single spot that felt less than clean!

And the thoughtfully prepared after-meal drinks..❤️ I tried both the citron tea and plum tea, and they were both delicious, so choose whichever freshens your palate best >< From the exterior to the final touch, nothing was missing—my intention to return is 1000000%! If you work near Yeoksam Station, I really hope you stop by at lunchtime, and if you have any reason to go to Yeoksam Station, don’t agonize over the menu and come here! Everything was delicious, so I can’t help recommending it ˘ᗜ˘
