Pangyo omakase with a private room for small group dinners: Kkweda

In short

Kkweda Pangyo Avenue France Branch is a Japanese-style omakase course restaurant a short walk from Pangyo Station Exit 1 in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. The early-September summer course ran through watermelon gazpacho, grilled vegetable salad, sweet corn custard, charcoal-grilled Iberico pork, nongeo (sea bass) karaage, eel donburi, neungi mushroom duck soup and yogurt sherbet, with a coat-and-bag nook behind the bar seats and a fully separate private room for up to 8. I found out about a really famous omakase spot in Pangyo and had to check it out. Let me introduce Kkweda, a Pangyo/Bundang omakase restaurant that was amazing from the exterior to the interior to the food.

How to get to Kkweda from Pangyo Station, and where to park

You can park at Pangyo Avenue France's underground parking lot 1 for Kkweda. Parking is free for up to 3 hours. It's also very close to Pangyo Station — I took the Sinbundang Line and got there quickly by leaving through Exit 1.

The exterior was so clean it really caught my eye, and the Kkweda sign stood out clearly too. There's a menu board out front as well. Kkweda rotates seasonal set courses, and since it was early September, this was the summer course.

Kkweda's seating: bar seats, hall tables and an 8-person private room

The interior at Kkweda is split into bar seating and hall tables. The bar seats wrap around the open kitchen, so you can watch the chefs cooking between courses. The hall tables seat up to 6, and further inside there's a fully separate private room that fits up to 8.

That's why Kkweda in Pangyo is also known as a spot for meet-the-parents dinners and company dinners. A fancy omakase work dinner at Kkweda?! Must be a company doing pretty well — already jealous.

The far end has a full window wall that gives a real sense of openness, and there's a speaker there that looks expensive — like something out of an interior design magazine, the kind where you check the price and gasp.

This is the open kitchen as seen from my seat. Watching the chefs cook and grill up close was surprisingly fun.

At the bar seats, there's a storage nook behind you where you can tuck away your coat and bag. Such a small thoughtful touch — very fitting for Kkweda's reputation as a go-to anniversary omakase spot in Pangyo.

Since I'd booked through Naver in advance, my seat was already set. Reservations are essential at Kkweda — you can book through Catch Table or Naver. Now let's take a look at the summer course.

What's in Kkweda's summer course?

  • Watermelon gazpacho — watermelon / squid / apple vinegar / Korean melon
  • Grilled vegetable salad — almond / zucchini / prosciutto
  • Sweet corn custard — sweet corn / kataifi noodles / shallot
  • Charcoal-grilled Iberico pork — Iberico pork neck / chimichurri / potato
  • Nongeo (sea bass) karaage — sea bass / yuzu ponzu / radish
  • Eel donburi (+truffle ₩10,000) — eel / tare sauce / burdock root
  • Neungi mushroom duck soup — neungi mushroom / duck
  • Yogurt sherbet — yogurt / thyme
  • Extra à la carte: hanwoo uni maki ₩10,000

Watermelon gazpacho

The watermelon gazpacho came out first — a dish that was new to me. Apparently it combines the sweetness of watermelon and the refreshing chill of Korean melon with the tanginess of apple vinegar. Having squid in there was unusual. Above all, it was plated so beautifully. Seeing such a gorgeously plated dish right from the start put me in a great mood.

Kkweda drinks menu and prices

At Kkweda in Pangyo/Bundang, ordering a drink is essentially required. I went with Kirin Ichiban draft beer — let me show you the rest of the drinks menu too.

  • NON ALCOHOL — Kkweda kombucha ₩11,000 / Kkweda mojito ₩12,000
  • DRAFT BEER — Kirin Ichiban (500ml) ₩11,000
  • PAIRING — 4-glass spirits pairing ₩34,000
  • HIGHBALL — Peace Minus One GD Highball ₩16,000 / Yantai Gold Highball ₩10,000 / Mungyeong Baram Baekja Highball ₩12,000 / Full Moon Highball ₩12,000 / Mungyeong Baram Oak Highball ₩13,000 / Monkey Shoulder Highball ₩13,000
  • WINE — House wine (120ml) ₩13,000
  • WHISKY SHOT — Balvenie DoubleWood 12Y (30ml) ₩18,000

Grilled vegetable salad and sweet corn custard

The cold draft beer arrived, and next up came the next course. The grilled vegetable salad featured zucchini charred over charcoal, paired with salty prosciutto and nutty sliced almonds. Apparently prosciutto is a traditional Italian cured ham made by salting raw meat and air-drying it for a long time — learned a new word today.

Next was the sweet corn custard, and it was exactly to my taste. Crispy fried kataifi noodles sit on top of a soft, sweet sweet-corn custard.

Mixing it all together, you get the soft sweetness of the custard, a crunchy texture, and a jelly-like texture all at once.

Charcoal-grilled Iberico pork

Now for the real main dish — charcoal-grilled Iberico pork. Tender, juicy Iberico pork neck came out with a spicy-tangy chimichurri sauce on the side.

There was a potato garnish alongside too, and eating them together made it even tastier.

Nongeo (sea bass) karaage

Next up: nongeo (sea bass) karaage. Somehow they knew I love fried food, and the summer course had a fried dish waiting for me.

Sea bass karaage with yuzu ponzu and radish

The tender sea bass was fried crisp on the outside, moist on the inside. It came with grated radish, which cut through the richness of the fried fish nicely.

Eel donburi

My favorite — eel donburi — came out. The eel, grilled and brushed with sweet-savory tare sauce, was so good. At first I thought the portion looked too small, but by the time I'd worked through the whole course I was so full that even finishing this dish took effort.

Neungi mushroom duck soup and yogurt sherbet

Neungi mushroom duck soup — the last dish, bringing a calm finish. Koreans always need soup, right? It wrapped things up cleanly with broth and noodles.

Finally, dessert: yogurt sherbet. Tangy-sweet yogurt with crunchy crackers — eating them together was really delicious, and it was the perfect clean finish to the meal.

Which occasions suit Kkweda?

Dinner at Kkweda in Pangyo felt like being treated to carefully crafted food in a stylish space. The textural contrasts of the ingredients and the balance of the sauces were excellent, and every single course was so beautifully plated it stirred up some serious Instagram energy.

Looking through reviews on Naver, the fall and winter season courses looked amazing too, so I've decided I need to come back this fall. Kkweda in Pangyo — I highly recommend it for anniversaries or date nights! And for office workers in Pangyo, with that private room, it's also a great pick for small company dinners. Treat yourself to a fancy meal as a reward for all that hard work!
