Gwangju black pork skin restaurant with cold noodles: Jeju Oktop
In short
Jeju Oktop JEJU BBQ, Gwangju Gyeongan Branch is an aged Jeju black pork grill house in Gyeongan-dong, Gwangju, Gyeonggi. Three of us including a baby ordered the Signature BBQ Set for 2–3 people and mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) at 7,000 won, and a staff member grilled every piece — the thick-cut pork belly, black pork belly and even the black pork skin. Handing the grill over to the staff made Jeju Oktop an easy family meal, leaving us free to look after the baby.

Jeju Oktop JEJU BBQ, Gwangju Gyeongan Branch, a restaurant specializing in aged Jeju black pork barbecue.

What kind of restaurant is Jeju Oktop Gwangju Gyeongan Branch?

I was craving meat lately and went looking for somewhere to go, and ended up at Jeju Oktop Gwangju Gyeongan Branch, a Gwangju restaurant that ages and sells Jeju black pork. What I liked most was that the staff grill the meat from start to finish. When I grill thick pork belly at home the outside burns while the inside stays underdone lol, or even when it looks well grilled the juices end up escaping — but here I could leave the grilling to them and just eat comfortably.
That day the three of us — including our baby — visited and ordered the Signature BBQ Set for 2-3 people plus mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup). The meat was delicious, but they also gave us separate dishes for the baby, and every staff member was so kind that it was a satisfying Gwangju restaurant for a family meal.
Parking at Jeju Oktop Gwangju Gyeongan Branch
Parking can be a bit of a hassle when eating in Gyeongan-dong, but at Jeju Oktop Gwangju Gyeongan Branch you can use the Munhwa Wedding Hall parking lot. Two hours of parking are supported with a meal. It's also handy to know the way from the parking lot to the restaurant ahead of time.
Head out toward the exit of the Munhwa Wedding Hall parking lot, walk about a minute, and turn left — Jeju Oktop is easy to find. That's how we found it too, and it didn't take long at all. Convenient for driving there, so it seems like a good option for a family meat outing in Gwangju.
A black pork grill house with a Jeju island mood
Walking in, the interior instantly evokes Jeju, true to the name Jeju Oktop. As a Jeju black pork specialty restaurant, they say the meat goes through aging processes like wet-aging and dry-aging before being served.
Wet-aging is a method that vacuum-packs the meat to block air exposure, reducing moisture loss and keeping it moist during aging. Dry-aging is a method that controls moisture while aging to bring out the meat's natural flavor even further. Serving black pork that's already delicious on its own through this extra aging process is what sets Jeju Oktop apart.

And as a proper Gwangju restaurant, one wall is packed with celebrity autographs. Even signatures from comedians I like and athletes~ Certified Gwangju pork belly restaurant!
Why Jeju Oktop was easy to visit with a baby

We brought our baby along that day, and they prepared separate dishes for her. Small touches like that matter a lot when dining out with a kid, and the staff took such good care of us that it was really nice.
Having the staff grill the meat for us was an even bigger advantage with a baby along. Trying to feed a baby while also grilling meat can be chaotic, but here we could leave the grilling to the staff and focus on the meal ourselves. One reason I'd recommend this to families looking for a good Gwangju restaurant :)
Jeju Oktop Gwangju Gyeongan Branch menu and prices

The menu is more varied than expected, ranging from Jeju black pork to Jeju Hanwoo beef. The signature items are the Je'jumeok' grill 500g for ₩35,900 (there's also a good-value set menu), and black pork ribs, belly, and shoulder rack at 330g each for ₩36,000 (a BBQ set exists for these too).
For à la carte, black pork belly, pork collar, and Jeju special cuts are each ₩16,000, and black pork skin is ₩7,000. There's also Jeju Hanwoo 1++ beef, so you can pick from sirloin, rib meat, tenderloin, chuck flap, sanggyeopsal-style cuts, and yukhoe (raw beef) depending on your taste.

The meal menu is quite diverse too. Spot shrimp doenjang stew, black pork kimchi stew, Jeju-style seafood ramyeon, crab bibimbap, galchi sokjeot (fermented hairtail entrails) fried rice, memil naengmyeon (buckwheat cold noodles), bibim memil naengmyeon, pollack roe steamed egg, and nurungjitang (scorched rice soup). Whether you're the type to finish with stew and rice after meat or with noodles like us, there were plenty of choices.
They also have just about every kind of alcohol, plus drinks with Jeju flavors that make you feel like you're on a Jeju trip haha.
17 seasonings and sides to pair with the pork
There's also a wide variety of condiments served with the meat. Jeju Oktop offers 17 different condiments, including Himalayan pink salt, steak seasoning, sea salt, and pepper, so you can pair them according to the cut.
Personally, I recommend dipping the first bite in just a bit of salt. Enjoy the flavor of the aged black pork itself first, then try combining the other condiments one by one — you'll get a slightly different feel from the same meat each time.
Inside the Signature BBQ Set for 2–3 people

We wanted to try several cuts together, so we ordered the Signature BBQ Set for 2-3 people. As soon as the meat arrived, the thick, hearty look passed the test right away lol. Jeju black pork really looks appetizing sliced this thick. As soon as it arrives, the staff put it straight on the grill — and from there, all we had to do was eat.
Jeju black pork grilled piece by piece by the staff
One of the things I liked most about Jeju Oktop Gwangju Gyeongan Branch. They grill the meat for you from start to finish. They brown the thick black pork on both sides, then cut it into bite-sized pieces and finish grilling it evenly all the way through.
Jeju Oktop apparently runs regular staff service and grill training, and watching the actual grilling, the timing for thick cuts was clearly different from doing it ourselves. We started with the belly first! Wrapped in lettuce, dipped grilled veggies in sauce — this, right here, is happiness haha.

Thick cuts are easy to overcook while trying to get the inside done, losing all the juices in the process — but here it comes out perfectly cooked and ready to eat right away.

So when recommending pork belly restaurants in Gwangju, I really want to mention that Jeju Oktop is 'the place that grills it deliciously for you.' Next up, on to the black pork belly! Both cuts were excellent, true to a great Gwangju pork belly restaurant haha.
Black pork skin at 7,000 won, grilled for you too

After finishing the meat, we thoroughly polished off the pork skin too lol. Jeju Oktop's black pork skin is scored with tight cuts so their special sauce soaks in. And the skin, too, isn't something we grill ourselves — the staff grill each piece for us.
Pork skin can spatter and burn on the grill if you're not careful lol, but since they grill it all for you until it's just right, it's so much easier. The nicely browned skin is slightly crispy outside and chewy inside — a great little bite to pick at after the meat.
Finishing the black pork with mul-naengmyeon cold noodles
Even after eating meat until full, there's always room for cold noodles lol. We finished by ordering one mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) to share. It's made with cool broth, buckwheat noodles, and a house-developed sauce. The price is ₩7,000. After all that meat, a cool bite of naengmyeon cleaned up the palate perfectly as a finishing dish.
Keep your receipt for Return X points
If you eat at Jeju Oktop Gwangju Gyeongan Branch, don't toss your receipt right away! The owner told me about this and I learned about it for the first time too — there's a point service called Return X you can use. You get points through the receipt from your meal, and Jeju Oktop Gwangju Gyeongan Branch is a participating store.
What's more, the points aren't limited to one store — they can also be used in Gwangju, Seongnam, and Suwon, so it's worth knowing if you eat out or shop often in these areas. I'm the type to toss receipts right away if I don't know about this stuff lol, but since you can rack up points from a receipt you'd get anyway, check out Return X if you visit Jeju Oktop!
Is Jeju Oktop Gwangju Gyeongan Branch worth it for pork belly?

We visited Jeju Oktop Gwangju Gyeongan Branch as a family this time. What I liked most was getting to enjoy thick cuts of aged Jeju black pork, with the staff grilling everything from the meat to the pork skin one by one.

Eating the meat right as it finished grilling meant we could really taste the juices, and best of all, it was genuinely easy to eat while taking care of the baby. They gave us separate dishes for her, and all the staff were so kind that it was a satisfying spot for a family meal with a little one.
Parking at Munhwa Wedding Hall gets you 2 hours supported, and it's a short walk from the lot to the restaurant, so it's convenient to drive there too. On top of that, you can rack up Return X points from your receipt after the meal, so don't forget to hold onto that last receipt :)
If you're in Gyeongan-dong craving thick pork belly and looking for a Gwangju restaurant that grills it deliciously for you, Jeju Oktop Gwangju Gyeongan Branch's black pork barbecue might be worth a visit haha. I'll head off now~
