Tonkatsu lunch with a 4,000 won mini curry in Myeonmok: Katsu Monster
In short
Katsu Monster Myeonmok is a tonkatsu restaurant on Sangbong-ro in Jungnang, Seoul, a 10-minute walk from Myeonmok Station Exit 2 and close to Seoil University. For lunch the writer and her partner ordered the mixed katsu set (pork loin + fillet) for 16,000 won, cold soba for 10,000 won and a 4,000 won mini curry on the side. The mixed set costs only 2,000–4,000 won more than a single-cut order but serves a full portion of both cuts, and the writer calls it the crispiest tonkatsu she has ever eaten.

A Myeonmok-dong lunch spot near Seoil University

Found a hidden gem in the neighborhood! I couldn't believe a place like this existed in Myeonmok-dong near Seoil University — a tonkatsu restaurant. My partner and I went for lunch and it ended up being so good I still think about it 〰️!
Where is Katsu Monster Myeonmok, and when is it open?
- 📍Location: 10-minute walk from Myeonmok Station Exit 2

- Address: 25 Sangbong-ro, 1st floor, Jungnang-gu, Seoul
- Hours: Daily 10:30–21:00

It's a tonkatsu place, but they also sell tonkotsu ramen. I seriously debated getting the ramen instead, but decided to try the main menu first — ramen next time 〰️

What is on the menu at Katsu Monster Myeonmok?
The core menu at Katsu Monster Myeonmok is the loin, fillet, pork jowl, and cheese katsu sets. On top of that there are mixed, combo, and triple katsu options for trying several cuts at once, plus set menus for one or two people pairing tonkatsu with a noodle dish.
- ✔️Core menu: loin, fillet, pork jowl, cheese katsu sets
- ✔️Mixed, combo, and triple katsu for multiple cuts at once
- ✔️Set menus for 1–2 people pairing tonkatsu with noodles
I loved having so many ways to order. They also have (spicy) tonkotsu ramen, chicken karaage, spicy curry rice bowl, (spicy) katsuo udon, cold soba, and menchi katsu!

Bar seats for solo diners and tablet ordering
Katsu Monster Myeonmok is on the smaller side. There are no facing tables — it's all one long bar-style counter seating about 10 people. Great for solo diners or groups of 1–2, and if you don't mind sitting in a row, groups of 3 or more can manage fine too.

You order via a tablet at each seat. I want this, I want that too...!!! So many decisions to make

Each seat comes with chopsticks and a spoon, plus salt, wasabi, tonkatsu sauce, and salad dressing!
What we ordered: mixed katsu set, cold soba and mini curry
- Mixed katsu set (loin+fillet) ₩16,000
- Cold soba ₩10,000
- Mini curry ₩4,000

We wanted to try a bunch of things haha, so we ordered the mixed katsu + cold soba + mini curry! We were pretty full, but it was a great, well-rounded combo haha. So filling

How much tonkatsu do you get in the 16,000 won mixed set?
The mixed katsu (loin+fillet) is ₩16,000. Since the price is barely different from ordering a single cut (loin ₩12,000 / fillet ₩14,000), I expected smaller portions, but not at all — you get a full single-cut portion of each. Best value pick by far. You'll be stuffed after finishing it haha. It also comes with rice, cabbage salad, miso soup, and kimchi.

Loin katsu (rosu katsu) at Katsu Monster Myeonmok
The crunch is so satisfying I wanted to record ASMR of it!! The balance of lean meat to fat is the charm of the loin cut 🥹🥹 Delicious. It paired especially well with wasabi. My partner said it was so good she'd want to order it for delivery too (delivery and takeout both available).

Fillet katsu (hire katsu): the tender cut
This one was also crispy on the outside, and the meat was even more tender and soft than the loin. It came without sauce poured over it, so it stayed perfectly crisp, not soggy at all. As a dipping-sauce person, I loved that haha. I usually prefer Western-style cutlets over Japanese ones, but today the katsu won, hands down haha! This was the crispiest tonkatsu I've ever had.

Is the 4,000 won mini curry side worth it?
When you want both tonkatsu and curry, you can add a mini curry side for just ₩4,000!

You can dip the tonkatsu straight into it, or eat it with the rice that comes with the set — either way it's delicious! Pretty tasty Japanese-style aged curry 😀

Cold soba for 10,000 won: a good summer lunch pick
I don't usually order cold soba, but it was especially hot that day and I was craving it, so we added it — and it was sweet and savory and genuinely delicious! (Not an artificial kind of sweet, so it didn't feel off-putting at all!?)

Plus it was so refreshing — a really good order (I think they use something cooling like radish in it haha). The seasoning was spot on! I've never thought soba was that tasty before, but this place's soba is genuinely delicious haha. Great choice. If you're wondering what to eat for lunch in Myeonmok, I recommend this tonkatsu spot, Katsu Monster!
