Udon and soba at Sinjeongnegeori with my family
Over the weekend, I had a delicious lunch with my family at Haengbokhan Udon Gage Sinjeongnegeori Station Branch (행복한우동가게 신정네거리역점), a great spot for donkatsu and udon near Sinjeongnegeori. The restaurant was spacious, parking was available, and the food was delicious, so we left very satisfied. Let me introduce this Sinjeongnegeori spot, perfect for days when you are craving bunsik (casual Korean snack-shop food).

Haengbokhan Udon Gage Sinjeongnegeori Station Branch is 22 m from Exit 1 of Sinjeongnegeori Station on Line 2. It is easy to reach by public transit, and with room for three to four cars in front, it is also convenient to visit by car. Open daily from 10:40 AM until 3:00 AM the next day, it is a nice place to stop not only on the way home from work but also when a late-night snack craving strikes ☺️

A spacious dining room with retro decor
The dining room was spacious and comfortable. There were several roomy tables for four, making it easy to settle in for a meal.

The retro-themed decor really caught my eye 😆 It was fun to look around at the retro fans, old televisions, and all sorts of posters, calendars, and clocks, haha.

A self-service bar and table-side kiosk ordering
You can refill the side dishes at the self-service bar. The fresh kimchi and danmuji (yellow pickled radish) were crisp and tasty, and went so well with the udon. Along with kimchi and danmuji, the bar had children's tableware, scissors, tongs, and hair ties, too!

Here is the menu at Haengbokhan Udon Gage, a great donkatsu and udon spot near Sinjeongnegeori. There was a wide range of meal options, including many kinds of udon, soba, donkatsu, dumplings, and rice bowls. We ordered through the kiosk at our table. Our order was two Gakgi Udon, one momil soba, and one cheese donkatsu.

Momil soba with a slushy-ice broth
The food arrived in no time! First up was momil soba, a summer specialty.

The generous serving of momil soba noodles came with a broth topped with slushy ice, plus green onion, wasabi, onion, and more. Dipping the noodles and toppings into the savory broth was wonderfully cool and delicious, like the heat was simply disappearing 😍

Gakgi Udon with a deep broth
Next came two bowls of Haengbokhan Udon Gage's signature Gakgi Udon. The bowls were large, and the portions were generous, too.

The Gakgi Udon had a clean yet rich umami broth that paired beautifully with fried tofu. The ingredients were fresh and everything worked so well together. The broth, made with clean kelp and katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes), had a lovely depth of flavor.

The noodles were not the thick, plump kind like packaged fresh udon; they were a little thinner, which actually made them even easier to slurp up. My child loved them so much! They said they were delicious and finished a whole bowl in no time 😆 Maybe it is because the noodles are machine-made fresh to order from hand-kneaded clean water, salt, and premium flour—they were wonderfully chewy.

Cheese donkatsu that paired perfectly with udon
While we were busily eating the momil soba and Gakgi Udon, piping-hot cheese donkatsu arrived! It came with udon broth, rice, and salad. Once again, I loved the generous portion.

The cheese donkatsu was packed with cheese, making it incredibly rich and delicious. Crispy donkatsu and savory cheese are always the right combination, aren't they? ☺️ It is a cutlet that simply has to pair well with noodles.

We had such a delicious, easy weekend family meal at Haengbokhan Udon Gage Sinjeongnegeori Station Branch, a donkatsu and udon favorite near Sinjeongnegeori. I could see why it is loved by so many people. If you are looking for a Sinjeongnegeori restaurant when hunger hits and you are craving bunsik, I recommend Haengbokhan Udon Gage Sinjeongnegeori Station Branch ❤️
