Sinnonhyeon izakaya terrace flounder sio sanhap at sunset: Goko

In short

Izakaya Goko Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch is a wood-toned Japanese-style bar on the 2nd floor of Bansuk Building in Gangnam, Seoul. The window and terrace seats caught a great autumn breeze while ordering flounder sio sanhap (35,000 won), chicken nanban (20,000 won) and seafood yaki udon (21,000 won) together for a mix of sashimi, fried and stir-fried dishes. It's quiet enough for a date or blind date, and popular enough that reservations are recommended.

If you're looking for an izakaya with good vibes in Gangnam Sinnonhyeon, I'd love to recommend this place! It's on the 2nd floor — Izakaya Goko — with a cozy wood interior that feels like a local Japanese bar.

There are so many good restaurants and bars around Gangnam to Sinnonhyeon that it's hard to decide where to go! If you need tasty snacks with a comfortable atmosphere, I'd recommend this spot. It's perfect for a date or a blind date too.

This is the 2nd-floor terrace view! The autumn breeze was insane.

There's a slightly raised platform, which makes this terrace space feel higher up and extra special.

The overall atmosphere of the place is great too, so I'd recommend it for a blind date or a regular date spot. *There's also a private separate space*

Wood-toned interior of Izakaya Goko's main hall

Rather than the loud, chaotic bar vibe, it's the kind of place where you can chat comfortably over good food, and there are plenty of staff working! Dishes come out quickly as you order, and everyone is super friendly.

There's a bar table where you can drink solo too!

The three dishes we ordered

The menu board has nice illustrations to explain each dish!

On this visit we ordered ✔️flounder sio sanhap, seafood yaki udon, and chicken nanban — three dishes in total. We tried a good spread from sashimi to stir-fry to fried dishes. Of course you could order one at a time and take it slow, but this time we ordered all three at once to enjoy a variety of flavor combinations.

From the light, clean sashimi to the salty, savory yaki udon to the crispy, nutty chicken nanban, each dish had a totally different flavor, and the sweet-and-salty combination was perfect as drinking snacks.

Flounder Sio Sanhap

The dish I was most excited about first was the flounder sio sanhap. Even the name sounds special! It's a hot menu item right now.

The flounder was clearly sliced thick and generous, and it looked really appetizing. One bite and you could really taste that distinct, clean, light flavor of flounder, plus a chewy texture that made it even more delicious.

Eating piece after piece slowly, it naturally made me want a drink. It was clean and not heavy at all, so it paired really well as a drinking snack.

Chicken Nanban

For a fried dish, we had chicken nanban! Crispy fried chicken with a delicious sauce on top — crispy on the outside, soft and juicy on the inside. Really good texture.

The chicken meat itself was clean and well-prepared! Fried food can sometimes feel greasy, but with the sauce it wasn't heavy at all and paired really well as a drinking snack.

Seafood Yaki Udon

The chewy noodles combined with seafood had great savory flavor, salty and chewy in texture too — a perfect drinking snack. We picked the menu so well!

Which seats should you reserve?

Finally, with window seats, a terrace, and a separate private space all available, this place seems great for whatever the occasion calls for — gatherings, dates, and more. *I'd recommend booking ahead (it's very popular)* If you want to enjoy delicious food in a quiet, atmospheric place, I'd recommend giving this spot a visit.
