Looking for proper tuna sashimi in Janggidong, Daegu? This time I visited Hangil Tuna, located in the Janggidong food alley.
I normally like tuna sashimi, but when it comes to actually picking a tuna restaurant, you end up weighing the price, the menu composition, the condition of the tuna, and so on. This time I tried the Manager Special at ₩58,000 per person, and the composition was better than expected — best of all, you can refill the tuna up to two times. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So here's my honest record of Hangil Tuna, a Janggidong, Daegu restaurant I visited, written exactly as I felt it that day.
Where is Hangil Tuna in Janggidong, and where do you park?
Hangil Tuna is located near the Janggidong food alley in Dalseo-gu, Daegu. The address is 266 Daemyeongcheon-ro, Dalseo-gu, Daegu (Janggidong 566-8), and it operates as a tuna sashimi specialty restaurant.

It's on the main road across from the Janggidong food alley we all know.
You can park near the food alley. Parking used to be free here, but when I visited this time, it had become a paid lot 🥹 Still, there are some free spots available ❗️
Inside Hangil Tuna: bar counter, tables and a private room
My first impression walking in was, "This is fancier than I expected!" Tuna restaurants can bring to mind a slightly dark, old-fashioned feel, but Hangil Tuna was clean and calm overall.
The quiet, relaxed vibe would be great for chatting comfortably with a friend over a meal, and I thought it would also work well for a date, family dinner, or small gathering.

There's a bar table, table seating, and room-style spaces, so it seems easy to use depending on the occasion!
What comes with the 58,000-won Manager Special?

The menu we ordered was the Manager Special, ₩58,000 per person ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Abalone porridge (jeonbokjuk) came out as a starter. We ate the warm, chewy porridge while waiting for the tuna 🍣 I should say upfront — the overall composition was better suited for enjoying a full meal than just eating tuna sashimi and calling it done!

Yuzu salad ✨ The bright yuzu sauce really opened up the appetite.

Just thinking about the price of tuna sashimi alone, ₩50,000-something might feel a bit steep, but Hangil Tuna's Manager Special wasn't simply one plate of tuna and nothing else. While waiting for the tuna, side dishes were set out, and there was a variety of things to pair with the tuna, so I ended up eating quite a lot throughout the meal!
The classic tuna-restaurant sides — dried seaweed (gim), aged kimchi (mukeunji), sesame oil dipping sauce — were all there too, so I could try the tuna plain first, then with the seaweed or aged kimchi, and finally dipped lightly in the sesame oil sauce, enjoying it in different ways.
The tuna sashimi platter at Hangil Tuna ❗️
The tuna sashimi finally arrived! With its bright red color and different grain and fat levels across the cuts, it was fun just to look at within one plate. Tuna really does differ quite a bit in texture and flavor depending on the cut.

The lean cuts had a clean, light flavor, while the fattier cuts felt much softer and richer. Especially the cuts with just the right amount of fat melted smoothly in the mouth. 🩷🩷🩷🍣

Hangil Tuna is described as using bluefin tuna as its base along with swordfish belly and other cuts, and they say the tuna goes through low-temperature thawing and an aging process. Maybe that's why, when I ate it that day, the tuna didn't feel overly frozen or chewy at all — overall it had an impressively soft, calm melting texture. It just dissolved in my mouth ~~
Two tuna refills, with different cuts each round

This is actually one of the biggest reasons I chose Hangil Tuna. The Manager Special lets you refill the tuna up to two times. Isn't that amazing? Haha 🫨🫨🫨
To be precise, after the first plate, you can get two more refills, so I really ate until I was full! Getting the initial tuna for ₩58,000 per person, and then being able to get two more rounds if you're still hungry, was quite satisfying.

And here's the fun part — refilling doesn't mean you automatically get the exact same cuts as the first plate! In other reviews too, the composition of cuts changed with each refill. So instead of just finishing one plate, there's the added fun of wondering, "What cut will come out this time?" If you love tuna, I think this is a pretty big advantage.

The fried egg and grilled tuna were also really delicious. The grilled tuna genuinely melted in my mouth 🫨

How tuna aged over 12 hours tastes

🍣 Tuna sushi 🍣 The bright red tuna... it looked so gorgeous 🥹

When the tuna starts feeling a bit rich, a bite of the spicy braised tuna soup pairs perfectly 🩷

Crispy fried shrimp 🍤 and plump udon noodles!!!!!!! 🩷

Hangil Tuna emphasizes low-temperature thawing and aging for over 12 hours, rather than simply serving thawed frozen tuna. Aged tuna isn't just about tasting cold and fresh — its characteristic flavor becomes a bit more concentrated. Eating it in person, the lean cuts were clean and light with a subtle depth, and the fatty cuts clearly had that rich, soft flavor.

Tuna's texture and flavor depend a lot on being properly thawed rather than frozen solid, and the tuna I ate that day had a solid overall texture. Being able to enjoy special cuts known among tuna fans — like cheek meat (ppolsal), throat meat (uldae), head meat (duyuksal), jaw meat (ipcheonjeongsal), and swordfish belly (mekadoro) — is also appealing for tuna enthusiasts.
Why Hangil Tuna is worth it for tuna in Janggidong

Not the same photo twice — this is the refill haha ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What I liked most about this meal wasn't just "the tuna is delicious."
- ₩58,000 per person Manager Special
- Up to two extra tuna refills
- Different textures and flavors by cut
- Aged-tuna specialty restaurant
- Upscale, calm restaurant atmosphere
- Room and table seating good for groups
These are the things that made the meal satisfying overall.

Especially if you visit with fellow tuna lovers, the portion feels quite generous relative to the price once you factor in the refills. So I think it's a solid option if you're looking for tuna in Dalseo-gu, or a place for a company dinner in Janggidong.
Looking for a sashimi restaurant in Janggidong, Daegu?

If you want raw fish or tuna sashimi in the Janggidong food alley and can't decide where to go, I recommend Hangil Tuna! It's the place to go especially when you want to properly enjoy tuna sashimi rather than a typical sashimi restaurant.
The atmosphere is upscale and quiet overall, so it suits people who prefer a relaxed conversation over a meal rather than a loud, bustling spot. I had the ₩58,000 Manager Special that day, and despite worrying the tuna might not be enough, the refills meant I left quite full.
If you love tuna, "₩58,000 for two tuna refills?" — it's worth trying at least once! 🐟
