Dalseo, Daegu brunch café for late pasta: Otter Rabbit House

In short

Otter Rabbit House is a cozy brunch café in Dalseo, Daegu, where brunch can be ordered until 5 PM. I shared bulgogi shrimp salad pasta, spinach shrimp oil pasta, apricot pie, and corn tart with my mom and aunt. Verdict: a lovely, unhurried spot for a meal with someone special.

A cozy brunch café I returned to in Sangin-dong

Today, on my way home from work, I met up with my mom and aunt and headed to Otter Rabbit House, a brunch café in Sangin-dong.

Otter Rabbit House is just a two-minute walk from the main gate of Dowon Middle School, so it is really easy to find. The café does not have its own parking lot, but you can park along the nearby roadside or use Dowon-dong Public Parking Lot, so parking is not too difficult even if you come by car.

Actually, this was my second visit to Otter Rabbit House. It is quite far from my neighborhood, but the desserts were so good and I absolutely loved the café atmosphere on my last visit, so I came back again. When my mom and aunt got out of the car and saw the exterior, they were so amazed and delighted, asking how I had found such a pretty, cozy café right in the city.

Brunch available to order until 5 PM

Because we visited around early dinner time today, we decided to have filling brunch dishes instead of just light desserts. At Otter Rabbit House, you can order the brunch menu until 5 PM.

Compared with typical brunch cafés that stop taking brunch orders early, this place takes orders late enough that you can practically have an early dinner here. It meant we could eat comfortably when we were hungry at that awkward in-between hour. We ordered three iced Americanos—the Korean default, you could say—along with bulgogi shrimp salad pasta and spinach shrimp oil pasta.

Charming interiors and the dessert display

While we waited for our food, I slowly looked around the café. Its cute, pretty décor still stood out, and every dessert on the display counter looked so tempting.

A café with outdoor terrace seating, too

My mom and aunt took their time looking around the café, then told me to come look because there was a back door at the far end. As it turned out, the café had a wonderful outdoor terrace, where a couple with an adorable dog were leisurely enjoying brunch.

The outdoor terrace seemed to be a pet-friendly space.

Bulgogi shrimp salad pasta and oil pasta

After looking around, we sat down and our main dishes finally arrived. The pasta portions were quite generous, and they smelled wonderful from the start. The plating was so pretty too, and I thought it would be such a nice place for couples on a date. As soon as the food arrived, my aunt and mom kept exclaiming over it, busy taking food photos and café proof shots.

Bulgogi shrimp salad pasta: how it tasted

The bulgogi shrimp salad pasta we tried first had such a clean, well-balanced combination of fresh vegetables and bulgogi. The bowl was piled high with salad, so it left us feeling nicely full by the end.

Spinach shrimp oil pasta: how it tasted

The spinach shrimp oil pasta was lightly spicy and addictive. It came with two whole shrimp, nicely seared on the outside, and the tender, well-cooked spinach went beautifully with the pasta. The overall flavor was excellent, and my mom and aunt kept saying how good it was.

Apricot pie and corn tart after a spicy pepper

But while eating the spinach pasta, my mom said she had accidentally bitten into a spicy pepper and that her mouth was burning. Then, just as we were nearly finished with the pasta, she suddenly went to the counter and came back with desserts.

Apricot pie and corn tart desserts

She brought back apricot pie and corn tart, saying they were delicious without being overly sweet and had been strongly recommended by a staff member. Personally, I think my mom simply loves dessert so much that she may have used the spicy pepper as an excuse to buy some. As expected, my mom is a true dessert lover.

Anyway, the new desserts were excellent too. The apricot pie was a little on the sweet side, but dipping it into the cream served alongside it gave it a different kind of charm. The corn tart was one I had never seen before: crisp pastry dough generously topped with a savory corn tart filling. It was not excessively sweet, so it was easy to keep eating without feeling weighed down.

To finish our meal, we cleansed our palates with crisp, refreshing Americanos. I was so happy that the three of us—my mom, aunt, and I—could come enjoy delicious brunch at such an atmospheric place for the first time in a while. It was a quiet, uncrowded weekday late afternoon, and every dish we ordered was delicious, making it satisfying in every way. If you want a relaxed, tasty meal with people who matter to you, I hope you will visit at least once.
