Why we chose Dongchuwon Bulgogi near Singi Market for a hangover cure

I drank way too much with a friend on Saturday.. and the next morning my stomach was just wrecked.. That's exactly when a spicy hot soup pops into your head, right?! So I went to Dongchuwon Bulgogi, a Sinjang Market favorite, and had the hanwoo boshin jeongol (Korean beef hot pot).

Dining hall crowded with families

This place is famous for bulgogi.. but today I tried the hanwoo boshin jeongol instead. It was packed, especially with families. The banchan (side dishes) looked really clean too, so it seemed like a good spot to bring your parents.

Dongchuwon Bulgogi also has a separate self-serve corner. Basic banchan comes out, but if you need more of anything, you just help yourself to as much as you want!

We ordered the hanwoo boshin jeongol, large size, for ₩65,000.

The basic banchan came with a nice variety of kimchi and jangajji (pickled vegetables). Both the pickles and the kimchi were varied enough to pair really well with the hot pot. Especially since the flavors weren't too aggressive but clean like home cooking, they matched perfectly with the rich broth of the beef hot pot!! Every single side dish was good enough to keep reaching for, and they were plenty to whet the appetite before the main dish arrived.

A dish of dipping sauce for the meat

This feels like the secret to this Sinjang Market favorite!! It's the dipping sauce for the meat. Somehow I just kept reaching for it over and over.

Large Korean beef hot pot, 65,000 won: is it enough for four?

There were four of us eating. The portion was huge, and it was packed full of vegetables too.

This Sinjang Market favorite hot pot comes out simmering!! It's great for a hangover, but honestly it's also perfect as a drinking snack.. Even while eating it I started craving alcohol again haha. Next time I'll definitely have it with soju!!!

They also give you extra broth. The moment I took the first spoonful of soup, it was seriously.. hangover gone.. body properly restored. It's a hangover cure, sure, but it definitely felt like a proper health tonic dish too. It had a deep, rich flavor. Eating the tender hanwoo (Korean beef) together with the mushrooms and vegetables gave a variety of textures and was so filling — truly the best kind of body boost!!! The alcohol from the night before had killed my appetite, but somehow I ended up finishing every last drop of the broth.

Seriously.. this is the best for hangover recovery.. Maybe because it's hanwoo boshin jeongol.. it felt completely different from other hangover cures.. It felt like I was taking care of my body's health while also curing my hangover!!! The heavy, deep flavor characteristic of a proper health tonic dish was no joke, and the savory taste of the hanwoo naturally melted into the broth, so I finished off even the last drop.

There was so much meat packed in, and it was soft, melting in your mouth.. Especially when you dip it in the sauce, you just can't stop eating it. Most people around us seemed to be eating bulgogi since it was lunchtime, but the hot pot was really a choice with zero regrets. I'll have to come back to try the bulgogi next time too!!

Hot pot with meat sitting underneath and side dishes on the table

Thanks to the clean aftertaste, all four of us just ate silently without talking haha. You can't see it because the meat is buried underneath, but there's really a ton of meat in there haha. Eating it together with all the vegetables was so good too!!!! Now that I'm getting to a certain age, I really love this kind of healthy food ~

Udon noodles added to the hot pot broth

Why adding udon noodles to the beef hot pot is a must

As a true Korean, adding udon noodles to the broth is a must!! I thought, while eating the soup, adding a noodle add-on would be perfect — and luckily they had udon noodles, so I ordered some.

As time passed, the broth got deeper and deeper, and the combination with the udon noodles was really great. The broth soaked all the way into the noodles, so you don't even need extra seasoning!!! If you all get this hot pot, please make sure to add the udon noodles!! The more I ate it, the more I kept thinking soju was essential haha. If I hadn't come here to cure a hangover, I probably would've ordered soju right away..

Did the hot pot cure the hangover? Plans for a return visit

Can you see the evidence of a proper hangover cure at this Sinjang Market favorite..? It was seriously crazy... My hangover was properly cured, but honestly it's also a dish that makes you crave soju... The feeling of getting rid of your hangover while eating it with soju..? If you're looking for a proper body-boosting dish, I confidently recommend the hanwoo boshin jeongol at Dongchuwon Bulgogi!! It's especially great to enjoy with family, and just as perfect for a hearty meal with friends. Next time, I'm definitely coming back to try their signature bulgogi too!!
