Japanese-French restaurant in Cheongdam-dong: fig caprese at Pepite
In short
Pepite is a Japanese-French restaurant on Dosan-daero 85-gil in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul. The fig caprese layers seasonal figs with Comté cheese and a kelp-broth tosazu cream, and the red shrimp bisque pasta is eaten twice over — first on its own, then stirred with stracciatella. With that much thought in the ingredients and in how each dish is meant to be eaten, Pepite is a fine choice for a special-occasion meal.

I visited Pepite, a Japanese-French restaurant that's been getting a lot of buzz in Cheongdam-dong lately. From the calm, upscale interior to menu combinations you don't often come across, it was a great spot for a special-occasion visit.

Pepite's entrance and dining room: a European-style setting

The red exterior walls and the plants set in front of the windows were arranged like a little garden. On a nice day, the outdoor tables look great for a light meal too.

Once inside, the dark wood-toned walls and crystal chandelier really set the mood. With tiled walls, arched windows, and lighting added on top, it resembles a classic European restaurant.
There's a long table in the center that can seat several people together, plus tables by the window and further inside. The space is spacious enough that it'd work well as a Gangnam date spot for two, or as a venue for a gathering or a Gangnam work dinner.
What's on the menu at Pepite, a Japanese-French kitchen

Pepite, a well-known pasta restaurant in Cheongdam, is a Japanese-French restaurant that adds Japanese elements to French cooking. Alongside Caesar salad, Korean beef tartare, abalone aemono, and amberjack ceviche, there's red shrimp, white ragu, uni, and truffle pasta.
I ordered two dishes from the menu.
- Fig caprese
- Red shrimp pasta
Fig caprese with Comté and kelp-broth tosazu cream

The fig caprese is a dish topped generously with Comté cheese over fresh figs and marinated tomatoes. Underneath sits a smooth tosazu cream made with a kelp broth base, finished with a yuzu dressing.

The figs were sweet and soft, and the yuzu dressing brightened everything up. On top of that, the savory umami of the kelp broth and the nutty, smooth flavor of the cream added even more depth.
From the sweetness of seasonal figs to the savoriness of the kelp, the smoothness of the tosazu cream, and the brightness of the yuzu — everything came together for a varied flavor, and the combination worked really well.
Red shrimp bisque pasta, eaten two ways with stracciatella

The red shrimp pasta uses a bisque sauce made by simmering red shrimp heads and shells with tomato sauce. On top is stracciatella cheese and a crumble made from shrimp heads.

The chef suggested trying the bisque sauce plain first, without mixing in the stracciatella cheese. Tasted that way, I got a savory umami hit and a deep, rich shellfish flavor, with the tomato's brightness cutting through and keeping the bisque from feeling too heavy.
The noodles had a nice springy bite, and the sauce was well soaked in all the way through. After mixing in the stracciatella cheese, the pasta got a nutty, creamy layer added on top, giving it a completely different feel from the first bite. I tasted the deep flavor of the bisque sauce first, then finished it off softly with the cheese mixed in 😋
Is Pepite worth it for a special meal in Cheongdam-dong?
Pepite, a Cheongdam-dong pasta spot, isn't just a pretty-looking restaurant — every dish had a clear point to make with its ingredients and how it's meant to be eaten. I got to try distinctly Japanese-French dishes, like figs paired with Japanese tosazu cream, and red shrimp bisque paired with stracciatella.
