While looking for somewhere to eat black pork in Aewol, Jeju, my boyfriend and I went to Nopo Dwaeji Aewol. We reserved ahead on Naver for 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. For the ₩55,000 two-person lunch set, we got 400 g of geun-gogi (thick-cut pork), 24-hour aged kimchi stew, and two bowls of rice. The staff grilled the pork themselves from start to finish, and it was quite filling for the two of us haha.

Nopo Dwaeji Aewol location and parking
It is located at 5-1 Gwakji 9-gil, Aewol-eup, Jeju-si. There is a separate, large parking lot behind the restaurant, so it was convenient to visit by car! Since you often get around Aewol by car, having plenty of parking was nice haha.
Saturday 11:30 a.m. reservation and wait
We visited at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Since it was the weekend and we thought there might be a wait, we made a Naver reservation in advance, then walked right in when we arrived—no waiting haha.

At around 11:30, the restaurant was still fairly quiet, but more and more customers came in while we ate. We got in right away when we visited, but it seemed to get busier over weekend lunch, so making a reservation beforehand might be a good idea!
Nopo Dwaeji menu and lunch-set price

The regular menu included black pork geun-gogi, Jeju pork skirt meat, and pork jowl. Since we visited at lunchtime, we chose the ₩55,000 two-person lunch special.
- 400 g geun-gogi
- 1 stew
- 2 bowls of rice
There were two stew choices: Jeju yellow crab doenjang stew (soybean-paste stew) or 24-hour aged kimchi stew. We chose the 24-hour aged kimchi stew haha. According to the menu, the lunch special is available to order from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., so keep that in mind if you are looking for lunch in Aewol!
Jeju black pork geun-gogi grilled for you

The best thing once the pork arrived was that a staff member grilled it themselves from the start!! They did not just put it on the grill—they cut it into easy-to-eat pieces and cooked it fully for us. Since they handled the grilling from beginning to end, we could simply relax and eat, which was great haha.
The pork looks quite thick even in the photos, right? I wondered whether it might be tough because it was so thick, but it was thick yet tender and delicious when I tried it.

Beautifully browned black pork haha.

And when you eat Jeju black pork, you cannot leave out meljeot (fermented anchovy sauce)!! They placed meljeot in the middle of the grill too, and dipping the pork into it once it was bubbling away was such a tasty combination haha. I kept alternating between eating it plain and dipping it in the meljeot haha.
24-hour aged kimchi stew and side dishes

Several basic side dishes came out too, and one of them unexpectedly stood out most to me. It was the side dish that looks like the red shredded radish in the photo!

I do not know its exact name, but it was totally my kind of thing haha. It was the side dish I kept picking at while eating the pork haha. And for our lunch-set stew, we chose the 24-hour aged kimchi stew.

I am not very good with spicy food, so I worried that the kimchi stew would be too hot. But it was not as spicy as I expected, so even spice-wimp me enjoyed it haha.

Taking a spoonful of kimchi stew and rice while eating the pork made for a great combination. It was enough for the two of us with the pork, and having rice made it even more filling!
Two-person lunch set and final thoughts
What we had was the ₩55,000 two-person lunch set, and my boyfriend wanted more rice, so we added one bowl haha. According to the menu, an extra bowl of rice is ₩1,000. With 400 g of geun-gogi, kimchi stew, and rice, we were pretty full after eating it all together haha.

The pork was thick yet tender, and it was easy to enjoy because the staff grilled it all the way through. The owner was really kind too, so we had a pleasant meal 😊 The large parking lot behind the restaurant and the option to reserve through Naver also made visiting convenient. If you are looking for a good black pork spot in Aewol during a Jeju trip, or a black pork restaurant for lunch, consider Nopo Dwaeji Aewol's ₩55,000 two-person lunch set haha. We had a filling meal together, from the geun-gogi to the kimchi stew, and I think we would return next time we crave black pork around Aewol!
