Goyang ramen restaurant for family dining with kids: Gyedan Ramen

In short

Gyedan Ramen Ilsan Main Branch is a ramen restaurant in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi. On a visit with his wife and child, the writer ordered gyedan ramen, motsu ramen with fried makchang (fried pork intestine), a 3,000-won tamago-bap (egg rice) and an extra bowl of rice, and the makchang-topped motsu ramen with its broth simmered for 14 hours stood out most. The whole family left satisfied with this Ilsan ramen spot.

I'd heard the wait at Gyedan Ramen Ilsan Main Branch is insane, so I went with my wife and kid. We got lucky and walked right in without waiting, and honestly, it felt like discovering an all-time great restaurant. Calling it 'the best meal of my life' is a bit cliché, but there's really no other way to put it... haha.

Inside Gyedan Ramen Ilsan Main Branch: atmosphere and how long the wait is

Gyedan Ramen Ilsan Main Branch is known as one of the best ramen restaurants in Ilsan. When we visited, the wait looked substantial, but the timing worked out and we got in right away. The interior didn't have that many seats, yet the staff were moving fast, handling customers nonstop. Even in a small space, the operation felt tightly run and efficient.

We ordered a gyedan ramen and a motsu ramen, one each, so we could compare the two styles and try a range of flavors.

What does the fried makchang in Gyedan Ramen's motsu ramen taste like?

What stood out most this visit was definitely the motsu ramen. The bowl came with fried makchang (fried grilled intestine) inside, and one bite genuinely surprised me. Makchang usually brings to mind something greasy and heavy, but this fried version wasn't oily at all — it was completely nutty and savory instead.

It completely broke every preconception I had about makchang. Fried crisp, it had great texture, and mixed into the ramen broth, the umami seemed to double. I'd strongly recommend the motsu ramen.

How deep is the 14-hour broth at Gyedan Ramen?

Apparently Gyedan Ramen's broth simmers for a full 14 hours. Once I heard that and took another sip, I understood exactly why it tasted so deep.

True to a broth built with that much time and care, the depth was on a different level. It was rich without being heavy, with umami spreading quietly through every spoonful. It ranks among the best ramen broths I've ever had. This wasn't just an intense flavor — it was a deep, layered flavor you could feel the time and effort in.

Alongside the ramen, we also ordered the 3,000-won tamago-bap (egg rice). Mixing it into the broth revealed a whole different charm — the egg and rice blended into something soft and nutty that paired perfectly with the broth.

Even after finishing the tamago-bap, we still wanted more, so we added an extra bowl of rice and mixed that in too. The broth was so good we just kept mixing rice into it. We polished off every last drop — it was that satisfying a meal.

Is Gyedan Ramen Ilsan Main Branch good for eating out with a child?

What I loved about this visit was that my kid, my wife, and I were all satisfied. The rich, distinctive ramen flavor wasn't too much for my child either, and my wife really enjoyed it too. Finding a restaurant the whole family can love isn't easy, and Gyedan Ramen Ilsan Main Branch was a genuinely great choice on that front.

A restaurant well worth the wait

Gyedan Ramen Ilsan Main Branch clearly earns its long waits. The nutty fried makchang in the motsu ramen, the deep 14-hour broth, and a satisfying spread rounded out with tamago-bap and extra rice — if you're looking for a great ramen restaurant in Ilsan, I'd strongly recommend Gyedan Ramen Ilsan Main Branch.

The motsu ramen in particular is worth trying even if you have doubts about makchang — it'll completely change your image of it.
