My husband and I were wandering around Lotte Department Store Nowon when we spotted a corner on the basement floor for Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters — the roastery famous for its Suwon coffee shop, now with a chance to try it in Seoul. Naturally, I dropped everything and headed straight over, like a sparrow to a mill.

20% off drinks with a food court receipt

To celebrate the opening of this branch, customers who eat at the basement food court and bring their receipt get 20% off drinks. If you're planning to eat and then grab coffee, hang onto that receipt for a cheaper cup.

No seating, but perfect for takeaway

Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters isn't a large space — it's basically set up just for roasting beans, with no seating to sit and drink. That's a drawback, but it's actually great for office workers heading straight back to work after lunch, or shoppers who just want a drink to sip while browsing. My husband and I were rushing to make our fertility clinic appointment, so grabbing our drinks to go was exactly what we needed.

How parking works at Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters

After paying for coffee, if you give them your car number, you get 2 hours of free parking. If you skip that, it's ₩1,000 for the first 30 minutes and ₩1,000 for every additional 10 minutes. On top of that, it seems shopping over ₩50,000 also earns you 1 hour free.

When I arrived there was already a long line, but after browsing other stores for a while it had shortened, so I went and joined the queue.

Signature coconut coffee, 1.11 million cups sold

The signature menu item is the coconut coffee! Coconut milk shaken together with cream, topped with espresso cream, promising a rich, full-bodied flavor. With 1.11 million cups sold, it brought back memories of the coconut coffee I had in Danang years ago, so curiosity got the better of me and I ordered one.

Hand drip coffee is famous at their original shop, but it was a bit disappointing that the Nowon branch can't offer hand drip due to how the store operates.

My husband and I ordered the famous coconut coffee (₩7,000) with a decaf swap (+₩500, free for pregnant customers), plus a RISHI chamomile (₩6,500) — two drinks total — then waited with our buzzer. You can choose dark, medium, or decaf beans; if you don't specify, dark is the default.

Bean and drip bag gift sets too

While waiting for our drinks, I looked around and saw a variety of beans packaged cutely for gifting, plus long pencils — unlike the ones I'm used to — for sale at ₩2,500.

For anyone without a bean grinder, they also sell drip bags, which seem perfect for gifting coffee-loving friends. There were foreign visitors around that day too, and with the distinctly Korean design, it looked like a lot of people were buying them as gifts.

How do the coconut coffee and chamomile taste?

The coconut coffee had that same soft foam and coconut aroma and flavor I remembered from Danang. I get why it's sold 1.11 million cups! It disappeared after just a few sips — a taste so good it was almost a shame it went so fast.

The chamomile tea felt somehow more refreshing than chamomile at other coffee shops?? Not minty like peppermint, but it left my mouth feeling clean after lunch, which I really appreciated!!! The tea bag stays steeped the whole time, and as the ice melts and dilutes it, it never gets too strong — just right!
