C-curl perm at Auruum Hair, a Jeonju hair salon

I’m trying to grow my hair out again these days. The problem is, it’s at that awkward in-between length that’s so hard to manageㅠㅠ If I wear it down, the ends keep flipping out, but I can’t be bothered to use a flat iron every day either, so I finally went to get it sorted out.

The place I visited was Auruum Hair in Jeonju Innovation City. When I first arrived, I was a little surprised by the salon exterior.

With its bright exterior walls and wood-toned entrance door, it looked more like a café than a hair salon from afar.

There was also a price list posted at the entrance, which was nice because I could check the prices before the service :)

Once I went in, the interior was much more spacious than I expected. It was bright and clean overall, and there was plenty of space between the seats, so it didn’t feel cramped. There was a separate waiting area too.

My awkward grow-out hair before the appointment

Since I’m growing my hair out, I wanted to touch the length as little as possible, but the ends were sticking out in every direction, making it hard to wear down. My color looks like it urgently needs attention tooㅠㅠ But what I wanted most was to wear my hair down naturally, so I decided to get the perm first and color it next time~!

When I made the reservation, I was initially considering a volume straightening treatment too. But Manager Jay, who consulted with me, explained that volume straightening is closer to a straightening service. I’m not really into hair that sits completely flat, so after the consultation I decided on a C-curl perm to tuck the ends inward. We also decided to add layers without taking much off the length.

What made the perm appointment comfortable

A perm takes quite a while, and they brought me a drink and snacks along the way. It may seem like a small thing, but when you’ve been sitting for ages, it’s surprisingly welcome haha.

Personally, I also really liked the shampoo room. It was somewhat separated from the service area and had partition walls, so it felt much more private. I tend to be a little self-conscious about other people watching when I’m getting my hair shampooed, but I could relax here.

There was also a VIP room, so it seemed like you could receive a service in private.

And finally, it was done! After the C-curl perm, the ends curled naturally inward and the overall shape looked so much neater. I especially liked that the added layers meant the ends didn’t fall in one heavy block when I wore my hair down; from the side, they fell in natural layers. And something I unexpectedly loved was how it looked tied up! I got the C-curl perm to wear my hair down, but even in a ponytail, the ends didn’t stick out everywhere—they curled inward into a soft round shape and looked much neater.

Even when I styled it myself at home, the curl was still there at the ends, so I feel like I can hang in there with this awkward length a little longer haha. If you’re growing your hair out but are worried about ends that keep flipping out because of the in-between length, I think tidying the ends with a C-curl perm like I did can be one option instead of automatically cutting it all short. I’m going to keep growing it out diligently like this for a while :)
